After watching yet another 10 episodes or so of Friends, I decided to take initiative and go out into Shanghai by myself. Donning my Northface and scarf, I hitched a taxi to Nan Jing Lu (for prospective tourists, this is the IT of touristy places. It's like NYC's Times Square stretched into a long pedestrian-only road). After getting there, I saw a Citibank! What a welcome surprise. So was the fact that I only had $4.32 in there (WHAT?) and that I met a French couple in there. Why do I have the best luck with les francais?
After walking for five minutes, this Chinese guy comes up to me and asks me where I got my shoes. I said America and we ended up talking for five minutes (whilst I feel VERY uncomfortable with this situation) and he keeps on asking me to give him my email address and have drinks? Yeah, weirdness. I get out of it by saying I'm meeting my dad at the other end and can't stop. Very detente if I do say so myself. On the way back, the same thing happens with a woman. I don't know what it is about me? Do I look like an easy target?
Hitch another cab to the Burberry store at the New World Department Store and bought two more scarfs. (Okay there is definitely a problem when a) I've spent a little under $1000 at one store and on many of one particular item b) that everyone I know is getting a Burberry scarf as their belated holiday present (we'll match!)) This accomplished, I rode home and here I am.
More later. :)
