At this point two years ago, I had attended new-teacher training at Lawrence public schools. There were about 30 new hires. Two or three teachers carried us through the first day with some powerpoint presentations. The Superintendent popped in for a quick speech, but that was about it.
Today I went to South Brunswick's new-teacher training. There were about 60 new faculty members. Would you believe (you'll have to since you don't have a choice) that there were about 30 administrators there to attend and support in addition to the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent. There were at least 7 or 8 principals there (12 schools overall), even more vice principals, and more.
It was almost night and day to see the difference between the way the two districts treated new teacher orientations and my level of satisfaction with working at these respective schools.
Three more days of new-teacher orientation. I have to get used to waking up that early. If I'm start, I'll continue the habit of waking up early next week, so once September hits, I'll be ready to go with no problems or hiccups. That is, if I am smart.
