So I've been invited to go to a conference this week (wednesday-saturday) at Cumberland Lodge.
You need to read about the Lodge and look at the photos to fully grasp the ridiculousness of the situation.
http://www.cumberlandlodge.ac.uk/Facilities/ Mainly, it's just so incredibly English I find it intimidating. Such an obscene amount of aged wood. What is especially intimidating is the fact that it is an academic conference, and I am 21, and am retarded. Luckily, I obviously don't have to present a paper. What am I possibly going to talk about at three-course sit down dinners in formal dining rooms with renowned academics? Seriously, the fact I am going is both absurd and absolutely inexplicable. I am interested in one speaker, who will be talking about, "From Sovereignty to the 'Responsibility to Protect': Rewriting Freedom in International Relations," but otherwise am not sure I will be able to comprehend academic-level discussion of the implications of Rawlsian theories of justice on the issue of the responsibilities of freedom. Actually, I'm not just unsure, I'm absolutely convinced I'll be lost.
Also, what do I wear????
Luckily, it's in a historic park so I might be able to escape and go on oh so scenic walks. God, this website makes me so uncomfortable.

This is one of those livejournal posts where one is desperately crying out for comforting messages, FYI.
Also, wasn't it kind of ridiculous 'Imagine' was played at the Olympics during the procession of the flags, or whatever that ceremony is actually called.
