Gen V Dragon Names
May as well join the crowd while waiting for my laptop battery to charge~ Also gives me a chance to use my lovely new keymonster icon!
I'm not 100% convinced that these names are all real, so I'm not going to put too much stock into them for now, but I thought I'd share my thoughts just in case.
Kibago > Axew
I don't mind the 'axe' theme of this line as it makes sense to me, but I don't get why they put a w on the end...it seems hard to pronounce and makes me feel like they just picked up a random scrabble tile and put it on the end of the word. Ah well, I'll get used to it.
Onondo > Fraxure
This one I think is just a little too punny for me...but I'll get used to it. It's not too bad.
Ononox > Haxorus
I actually don't mind this one too much but it seems like it's going to get a lot of lulz and meme status =/ This would be a better name if 'hax' did not have the meaning it does, and just meant chopping something...but I'll get used to it, as well. As somebody said, this line's names sound like leet gamertags.
Kurimugan > Druddigon
The Japanese is just kind of clunky and strange to me so I would have been surprised if it'd stayed the same. This English one is fine by me!
Monozu > Deino
This one is ok, but I don't know how you're supposed to pronounce it - 'dino'? 'dei no'?
Jiheddo > Zweilous
This one is clearer to me but that's probably because I studied German in school XD It doesn't really seem to fit the Pokemon to me, but I'll get used to it.
Sazandora > Hydreigon
Hydra + 3 heads + dragon! I'm pleased with this one as it certainly could have been worse, and I really like the fact that it has 'hydra' in it, since that's what I consider these guys. (When I first saw them my reaction was 'OMFG hydras!!')
Zekrom, Reshiram, Kyurem
Thanks for not changing my legendary names! These babies can stay as they are.
Also, a couple of my non-dragon faves:
Chaobuu > Pignite
This is actually a cute name, but I don't really feel like it fits the Pokemon. Maybe it would have been better to switch his name with Tepig's...
Enbuou > Emboar
I always thought the 'ou' in Enbuou was like 'king', so if that's right this isn't a direct translation, but I've got no problems with this one at all. Odd how this was actually the fanon name for him o_O
Doryuuzu > Excadrill
This one is ok, but will take some getting used to. I guess it's excavate + drill...
Marakacchi > Maractus
I actually just saw this one for the first time while making up this list. Kind of disappointed that they didn't keep the kachina thing, and I don't know what the 'mara' is supposed to be (in either name). Maybe this lackluster name will be the push I need to not collect this Pokemon? ^_^;
