OK, so I was watching "Law & Order" last night, about these kids who were brought up in cults, and it got me thinking about the whole religion thing again

I always figured the stories in the bible were either not meant to be taken literally, were metaphors, or just a simple case of Chinese whispers.
The tradition of handing stories down orally mutates the story. Over the generations the stories would become more fantastical, become mythic. For instance, the flood, apparently there was a major flood in that area a few thousand years ago. For the people who survived it must have seemed the whole world were flooded, from their limited viewpoint.
I think there are kernals of truth to most of those stories.
I believe that Jesus was a Buddha. Enlightened ones do have a connection with the universe that can make things that are impossible in our limited perception possible. Healing the sick etc, but I'm certain his feats were also exagerated over the years. The Catholic Church invested a great deal into making him a God, power play on their part.
There are enlightened ones amongst us, the Dalai Lama is one and he's not considered a lunatic, he's revered in much of the world, and respected in the Western World. There is a lot of garbage out there, people selling religion, people with schizophrenia.
But there is truth, but we must be careful in finding it.
