Spotify for Linux is available as a preview at the moment however a few users including my good self are having problems with it.

did it work? I quite like spotify, I'm thinking of abandoning last.fm for it (but don't tell it, I'm going to break it to it gently).

not yet, but they are working on it so hopefully the next release will do the trick untill then the windows version works fine on Linux using wine :)

As to "abandoning last.fm"... I listen to music from both and of course when listening to stuff from Spotify I scrobble :D
