Everythings Worse With Bears - 'Beowulf' is a kenning for bear. 'Wulf' basically just meant 'predator' in Old English, so the literal meaning is 'Predator of Bees' or 'Enemy of Bees'. Basically, Beowulf is like a wolf with bees in its mouth, and when it howls, it shoots bees at you.
Bees. My God.

Edit: Guys, TvTropes just replied to me on twitter (re: not being Beowulf): "I never said I wasn't a Spear-Dane. Just never said I was either." This just made my night/morning.
