Siwon watched Yesung bolt from the scene, his memories kicking into high gear.
“So you’re the boss’ kid?” asked a boy, only slightly older than Siwon, with long, reddish hair.
“No, I’m his nephew,” he replied and the boy laughed.
“Close enough. The name’s Heechul. Your’s?”
“Siwon,” he said, “it’s nice to meet you.”
“Yeah, yeah,” said Heechul, “don’t be so tame, will ya? It makes me want to bully you.” Siwon could tell from the first time he met him, Heechul was a firecracker. Everything about him was beautiful, exciting, and very dangerous.
When he first started working in his uncle’s restaurant, he knew almost nothing. Siwon had always been a fast learner though, and he had mastered using the register in no time.
“Now you have to learn how to cook the food,” his uncle had told him.
Siwon was a bit nervous. Heechul was the cook that he’d be working with and studying under. He didn’t really trust Heechul at first because he looked like he would just throw things together. However, after a few hours of studying his methods, Siwon could see the Heechul was incredibly precise and focused on his work. None of the dishes he worked on ever looked anything less than perfect.
“Wow, you’re really good at this.” Heechul smiled cockily at him.
“I’m good at a lot of things.” When Heechul smiled, Siwon couldn’t help but smile back at him. He knew he should be paying more attention to Heechul’s actual technique, but he couldn’t take his eyes off Heechul’s face. He was really something. He was even more beautiful than most girls Siwon knew.
Siwon liked more than just Heechul’s face though. He liked how every week Heechul would have a different hair color or hair style, Heechul’s larger than life attitude, and most of all those times when the usually spicy, off the wall cook was calm and contented. He liked everything about Heechul, so much that he wanted him all to himself.
“Hey,” said Siwon to Heechul one day after work, “do you want to go get something to eat with me…or something?”
“Why go out, when we can stay right here?” Heechul had replied. That night, he and Siwon had closed the restaurant together and had dinner together in the kitchen. Siwon could tell, he was falling for Heechul, hard. He wanted to tell Heechul how he felt, but he wasn’t sure how to go about it. Heechul seemed to see him thinking hard.
“Hey,” he said, “quit spacing out, or I’ll eat it all myself.” Siwon blushed and they finished their dinner.
For the next few weeks, Siwon couldn’t think about anything but Heechul. His feelings were driving him crazy, like he would explode if he didn’t tell Heechul how he felt, so the next time he got a chance, he asked Heechul to have dinner with him again. Just like the last time, they closed the restaurant and cooked together before sitting down to eat.
“Hey,” Siwon said, “you know, I kind of…I mean, I really like when we have dinner like this.”
“Yeah,” replied Heechul, “tell me about it. I mean, we work in a restaurant all day but can’t eat while the customers are here. By the end of the day I’m starving!” Heechul rolled his eyes. Siwon smiled.
“I didn’t really mean it that way,” he said.
“Oh?” said Heechul shrugging. Siwon sighed.
“You see,” he said, “the reason I asked you to have dinner with me isn’t just because I’m hungry. I mean, I am, but what I really wanted to say is that I really like you a lot. And I wanted to spend time with you.” Heechul nodded, not looking up from his food.
“Yeah, you’re a pretty cool kid too, I guess. Just, try not to get too attached, alright?”
