Sing a song ch. 10

The next day, Zhoumi drove Kyuhyun to work, walked him inside the building, and promised that they’d go to dinner that night. Everyone that they walked past stopped to stare at them, but neither of them really cared. They were too caught up in each other to care. When Zhoumi left that day, Kyuhyun looked forward to seeing him that night. He made sure to work extra hard all day, and when Zhoumi came to pick him up that evening, he was already wound up with excitement. Zhoumi smiled at him and they walked down to his car together. They drove to the restaurant with the roof down. Kyuhyun loved it more than anything. They finally got to the restaurant and Kyuhyun was surprised. It was completely empty.

“I reserved it just for us,” said Zhoumi with a smile, and Kyuhyun hugged him. “Are you happy?” asked Zhoumi, and he nodded. Under the lights of the restaurant, both of them glowed happily, smiling at each other as they ate. Everything was perfect. It was a gift from God. When they finished eating, Zhoumi moved his chair a little closer to Kyuhyun’s.

“Kyu,” he said, “I know it really hasn’t been long, but I feel already as if I want to be able to say ‘I love you’ to you everyday for the rest of my life. I want to keep loving you like…like we’ll never have to be apart, not even one day.” Kyuhyun smiled and Zhoumi continued. “I want us to fall asleep together on the couch again, and I want to hold you every single day.” Kyuhyun leaned over and kissed him.

“That’s a nice thought,” he said.

“I know I’m not the best though. I’m probably going to make a lot of mistakes…and it probably won’t be easy at times.”

“Yeah, well,” said Kyuhyun, “nobody’s perfect. And anyway, we’ve weathered one storm, we can weather another. Through rain or snow…I know we can make it.” Zhoumi smiled at him.

“I’m glad you think so, because…,”

“Because?” asked Kyuhyun. Zhoumi stood up and then kneeled next to Kyuhyun’s chair. He took a box out of his pocket, opened it, and then, held Kyuhyun’s hand in his, holding the box out to him.

“Because I want you to marry me.” Kyuhyun was speechless. He stared at Zhoumi and the ring in awe. All he could think about was how great Zhoumi would look in a tuxedo, how happy they would be together. His heart had grown wings and taken off for the moon.

Kyuhyun stood up from his chair and then bent down, throwing his arms around Zhoumi’s neck.

“So, I take it yes?” asked Zhoumi, and Kyuhyun smiled.

“Yes, yes forever. I want to be with you even when we get old, even if we get sick, even if times get hard. Yes. I want to be with you.”

“Good.” They separated, and Zhoumi slid the ring onto his finger. Zhoumi leaned in and kissed Kyuhyun, thankful for every single moment they’d spent together already, ready to be thankful for all the ones yet to come. Kyuhyun felt the same in his heart, hoping to remember this moment, these feelings for the rest of his life. They stood up, hand in hand, nose to nose, heart to heart, smiling with the radiance of the sun’s glow.

“I promise to love you forever, through rain or snow, through all the hard times, even when we grow old. I haven’t got much to give you but love, but I’ll try, even though I’m not perfect to give you everything you’ll ever need. I love you so much. I want us to be together forever. So, I hope you feel the same,” said Zhoumi, gazing into Kyuhyun’s eyes.

“I do,” said Kyuhyun, and they kissed again. A kiss that tasted as sweet as the promise the future held for them, as sweet as the moment they were brought together, the moment Zhoumi had heard Kyuhyun sing a song, a song that had bound them together for the rest of eternity.
