Summary-Leeteuk doesn't understand being called an angel
words-647
All his life Leeteuk was called angel. Everyone said he was so good and perfect, like life was a breeze for him, that he must live in heaven because he was always at peace. But the truth was so much different. The wings he was endowed with were only tools he used to struggle along, like everyone else through a life that was constantly pushing against him. He was at peace because he had resigned and accepted the fact that that was how life was supposed to be, difficult, even for someone called an angel. And he had also adopted the notion that it was the same for everyone. That no matter who you were, no matter what your status, no matter how hard you worked and studied, you could never beat life. You would always be struggling against something. But eventually he began to wonder, for what?
Then he met Kangin. Kangin was tall and strong but still sweet, and Leeteuk couldn’t help but blush. Kangin was someone he liked, and he wanted to spend more time with him. Days passed them by, and little by little the two talked and became friends, and then best friends, and then, finally boyfriends. Leeteuk couldn’t have been happier as all his struggling had paid off this time. Kangin was everything he could have wished for, and more. So naturally, he did his very best to be the perfect boyfriend in every way. And Kangin called him Angel.

One day, they sat together on Leeteuk’s couch, side by side, staring out the window. They were supposed to be at the park, but much to Leeteuk’s irritation, Kangin had decided he didn’t want to.

“Let’s just talk,” said Kangin, “I feel like I don’t know enough about you.” Leeteuk sighed, yet another struggle, the struggle to let his true colors show.

“What do you want to know?” asked Leeteuk.

“Anything,” said Kangin, “like…favorite color?”

“White.

“Or what you do for fun?”

“Read.”

“Or,” Kangin was at a loss, and Leeteuk sighed. He turned to face Kangin, and grabbed his hand.

“Can I ask you something?” Kangin nodded.

“Why do you think I’m an angel?” Kangin smiled.

“That’s easy,” he said, “because you’re so kind and perfect.”

“Am I really?” Leeteuk asked, “I mean, I’m just like everyone else, even worse…these wings, all they do is make life harder. Everyone expects so much that everything is a struggle.” Kangin nodded, and put on a thoughtful expression. For a moment, there was silence, but then he spoke.

“Life is never easy,” he said, “everyone knows that, and no one really expects you to be perfect.” Leeteuk stared at him, “but because no one expects it of you, the fact that you are just blows everyone away.” He smiled at Leeteuk and went on. “Even angels fall sometimes, and everyone’s allowed to make mistakes. Sometimes you just need to give up and free fall, just let things go the way they want to.”

Leeteuk thought about this, and what Kangin said about him. Was it true that no one really expected this perfection? Could he really just relax and let things go any way? He wondered about this, and pictured himself and his wings. Then, he smiled.

“I think,” said Leeteuk, “I trust you.” He lay back and fell into Kangin’s arms, loving that the other wrapped his arms around him. “From now on, I think I’ll let things go a little more. And also, I don’t want to be an angel anymore. I don’t want those wings. Someone else can have them. From now on, I just want to be Leeteuk.” Kangin smiled and leaned down to kiss his forehead.

“Of course,” he said. “I love you Leeteuk.”

“I love you too,” said Leeteuk, and smiled. Maybe it was better to just free fall with Kangin at his side to support him.
