(reposted from the email I sent a few days ago)
Thanksgiving is one of my favourite holidays. Aside from the fact that there's food involved, the main reason is the premise behind it: the partnership between two very different groups of people, Native Americans and English settlers, working together for mutual benefit. All right, that's a very generalised (and highly romanticised) account of what actually happened. But I really like the universal ideals of community and cooperation in spite of the holiday's distinctly American origin.
Since I won't be able to join my family for our celebration at home, I'll be holding a Thanksgiving gathering at my house in Bristol. I'll be making vegan variations of traditional Thanksgiving fare - mashed potatoes, cornbread, pumpkin pie, and plenty of other things I haven't thought of yet. You're welcome and encouraged to bring your own autumnal dishes. Vegan/vegetarian is preferred, but nothing will be turned away.
This dinner gathering will be held the afternoon/evening of either Saturday the 17th or 24th of November. More details will follow, but right now I'd like to get an idea of which date would be better. So I'd appreciate it if you could let me know whether you have a preference - I want as big a turnout as possible.
Thanks, and I hope to see you then!
