I wish I was more like Silk

He's a character from David Edding's magnificent Belgariad and he's outrageous in his gestures, words, and actions. Nobody can stay angry at him for long. He's a thief, a lock-picker, a brilliant con artist, clever and cunning. Life is like a game to him, a bright, shiny toy. He's also carefree and extremely happy and teases the world instead of being upset at it. What's the point? Inevitable war is coming, the world might possibly end, but he's happy-go-lucky. He doesn't overanalyze the small stuff. Or the big stuff for that matter. When people are mad at him, that's okay. He's not mad at them. He doesn't get mad. So therefore, people don't stay mad at him for long. :)

From Magician's Gambit
"What was that?" Belgarath asked, coming back around the corner.
"Brill," Silk replied blandly, pulling his Murgo robe back on.
"Again?" Belgarath demanded with exasperation. "What was he doing this time?"
"Trying to fly, last time I saw him." Silk smirked.
The old man looked puzzled.
"He wasn't doing it very well," Silk added.
Belgarath shrugged. "Maybe it'll come to him in time."
"He doesn't really have all that much time." Silk glanced out over the edge.
From far below - terribly far below - there came a faint, muffled crash; then, after several seconds, another. "Does bouncing count?" Silk asked.
Belgarath made a wry face. "Not really."
"Then I'd say he didn't learn in time," Silk said blithely.

I wonder why it's so hard to keep the simple things simple. Why complicate things? Cheerful, that's what it's supposed to be. Bloody cheerful, easy-going, un-angry, just like Silk.

//I went skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing
I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denyin'
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin'

He said I was finally the husband, that most the time I wasn't
And I became a friend, a friend would like to have
And all of a sudden goin' fishin, wasn't such an imposition
And I went three times that year I lost my dad
Well I finally read the good book, and I took a good long hard look
At what I'd do if I could do it all again
And then

I went skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing
I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denyin'
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin'// Tim McGraw

Let it go.
