I always want her to watch these movies that I think are great, even though I know she probably won't like them, and also even though I know how many awkward scenes there are, and then when we're actually watching them, I get so uncomfortable and make excuses to leave the room anyway.
But everytime she complained about how sick it is, I tried to bring up how explicit Sex and the City is, which she loves, and which she had just been watching and like...Samantha was dating some guy who shaved her crotch and then Samantha had to pull Carrie's diaphram out of her hoo-ha, and so I kept saying stuff to my mom like, "How can you obsessively watch such filth and then criticize this?! How close-minded of you, Mother!! So these scenes are a bit more uncomfortable, and that makes them SICK, while you find, 'Oh, how could he just stick his finger up my ass without asking?! [gigglegigglegiggle] I didn't know what to do! [hehehhee]' absolutely hilarious?! At least THESE characters have REAL emotions!! You are so self-righteous!" And then that would shut her up for like, 20 minutes until she would say, "But Sex and the City is FUNNY!" And I would say something like, "SO IS THIS! I told you when we started it that you had to FIND the humor and not be so stuck up about it!! He's taking really awful and messed up situations and MAKING them funny, and that process is what makes the movie ultimately funny!! Don't you understand anything about humor?!"
