Okay, I did it! I finally ordered the Russian Holmes series. After watching what I could on Youtube, I decided this was a must buy. The scene at Reichenbach and the scene where Holmes returns made my mind up. Now I only have to wait...patiently.

Same situation for me now - I've finally ordered the Granada series and look forward to get them now! Thousand apologies for my intrusion, but I'm very eager to know, how did you like the Russian films?
Yours sincerely,
Adesty

Hello! I'm sorry for the delay, I just got to this now. I quite enjoyed the Russian series very much. The only reservation I had was the strange characterisation of Henry Baskerville. It seemed a caricature or stereotype of Americans that is only seen in movies and not in real life. Regardless, he was still likeable and I enjoyed the show.
Please let me know what you think of the Granada series. People either love or hate Jeremy Brett's Holmes. Which Watson do you prefer: David Burke of Edward Hardwicke?
Regards,
Liz

Thank you so much for your opinion! As regards to Sir Henry's portrayal, it sometimes engenders arguments even among the fans of the Russian series :) This character really looks like a caricature of a cowboy from the Westerns (despite the fact that Sir Henry was a nobleman). Anyway, I think it was by no means a serious outlook, bearing in mind that whole serial was slighlty ironic ( ... )

I think I prefer Edward Hardwicke's Waston, although it is very close. David Burke is more youthful and true to canon, where our boys were "youngish men." But, given the fact that JB was playing Holmes a little older, I like EH because he portrayed Watson as a more complicated man. There seemed to be more depth to his Watson. Also, I think I love him a little because he was so good to JB in real life, like JB's own real life Watson, who looked after him and was a true friend.
OK, clearly I think waaaaay too much about this.
BTW, I love the scene in the Russian series wher Watson and Baskerville are drunk. I laugh every time!

I agree. David Burke's Watson was a good companion to Holmes as we see him in the earlier episodes, but Edward Hardwicke's character matches Holmes shown in the later parts of the serial. In a word, both Watson characters are good, each in its own way :)
:)) Which episode from the Russian series is your favorite?
And, btw, your usespic is hilarious :) Is that Lestrayd between Holmes and Watson?
