It was enerirenie's birthday a while back and she demanded fic I told her I'd write her a drabble if she prompted me.

...It saddens me that I can apparently break a thousand words without even trying anymore. sigh. Then again, you can see how I totally cheated just by looking at the characters. LOL. Uhm, but Happy Birthday again, Reensis! ♥

prompt: ryo/erika. cupcakes.

chocolate frosted happiness
ryo/erika, massu, tegoshi. 1142 words.
--ryo needs help, so naturally he ends up at massu's doorstep.

"You want me to what?" Massu asks again, staring at Ryo with wide eyes, and not only because the older man is covered in flour and cake batter from head to toe.

"Cake," Ryo replies calmly, even after a large dollop of batter drips off of his hair and smack onto his face. "I need you to teach me how to make a cake--cupcakes."

Massu thinks laughing might be fatal to him; he clears his throat instead. "M-May I ask why, Nishikido-kun?" Ryo opens his mouth, then closes it, then makes a strange disgruntled noise in the back of his throat.

"Massu, who is it?" someone chirps from inside the apartment. Ryo's eyes widen in alarm as Massu turns his head inward and replies, "It's Nishikido-kun."

"Eh? Really?"

"Mm," Massu continues, despite Ryo frantically waving his arms and making grand 'X' gestures with his hands, "he wants me to teach him how to--bake."

"Ehhhhh?" Tegoshi's laughter follows, and as nice and pure and pretty as it sounds, it just makes Ryo want to hit something.

"You want to come in, Nishikido-kun?" Massu offers, opening the door wider. Ryo sighs and enters, kicking off his shoes in the foyer. Tegoshi meets them halfway in the living room, wearing a large grin on his face.

"Ne, what do you need to learn how to bake for, Nishikido-kun?" Tegoshi asks, all sparkly childish excitement and wonderment.

"I just--do, okay?" Ryo grouches, following Massu in the kitchen. Tegoshi trails after them, amusement radiating right off of his very body.

"Today is Erika-chan's birthday, isn't it?" he says gleefully.

"How did you even know that?" Ryo hisses, just as Massu wonders aloud, "Since when did you call her Erika-chan?"

"I'm always on wikipedia," Tegoshi replies blithely. Ryo turns his pained face on Massu, who shrugs. "Well, it's true."

"I think it's sweet that you're trying to make Erika-chan a homemade present for her birthday. She loves sweets, ne?" Tegoshi continues on cheerfully, despite the indignant and embarrassed flush growing on Ryo's cheeks.

"Why are you even here?" Ryo groans.

"It's Massu's apartment," Tegoshi replies innocently. "I'm always here."

Ryo turns to Massu, who shrugs. "Well, it's true." He buries his face in his hands and thinks this is the worst decision he's ever made in his life.

-

"So, why didn't you just ask your mom to help you learn or something?" Massu asks, once Ryo has been suitable cleaned up in his bathroom. He's wearing an old pink apron that Massu's sister left behind, with his sleeves rolled up and hair clipped back with some girly yellow clip they found in Tegoshi's huge bag. Ryo snorts as he cracks eggs into the mixing bowl.

"Are you kidding me?" He wrinkles his nose. "She'd never let me live it down. Would probably snap pictures or some--" Ryo cuts off as a flash goes off in his general direction.

"No, don't mind me," Tegoshi says from the edge of the kitchen, smiling sweetly as he puts away his camera.

"I hate you," Ryo hisses. Tegoshi sadfaces. Ryo sighs. "Okay, I don't hate you."

Tegoshi visibly cheers and snaps a few more pictures for the occasion. Massu nervously keeps Ryo from cracking more egg shells into the mixing bowl.

-

"Well," Massu comments a few hours later, taking the cupcake pan out of the oven. "I don't know what to say, Nishikido-kun. I'm impressed."

"Oh?"

"Yeah. I didn't think anyone could be more hopeless in the kitchen than Tegoshi--but you've just proven me wrong."

Ryo's face falls. "Is it--that bad?"

"Well, Massu says, dumping the entire pan into the garbage. "You know how Tegoshi didn't step more than two feet of the kitchen?"

"Yes?"

"That was for a reason."

Ryo groans. "Stupid Sawajiri and her stupid birthday and her stupid 'try and think about me for a change and don't just buy me something expensive'--WHAT IS WRONG WITH EXPENSIVE?"

Massu sighs and pats him on the shoulder. "Tell you what, why don't you go get cleaned up for your date tonight and when you come back over, I'll have a dozen cupcakes frosted and ready to go for you." Ryo stares.

"Masuda," he says seriously, "this never leaves this room--but. I may never have loved another man as much as I love you right now."

"Err," Massu laughs sheepishly, unsure how to even respond. Tegoshi saves him the trouble when he pokes his head back into the kitchen and giggles, "I heard that!"

-

An hour later, Ryo rings Massu's door and gets a basket of chocolate frosted cupcakes wrapped in gold foil.

"That was really--fast," Ryo states, surprised.

"Well, I had help this time," Massu shrugs just as Tegoshi bounds up to the door grinning widely, chocolate frosting smeared over his nose and cheeks.

"I thought he wasn't allowed to go into the kitchen," Ryo points out. Massu shrugs again.

"We did it in the living room."

"I'm really good at frosting things!" Tegoshi bubbles cheerfully, and wipes some of the frosting off of his nose and onto Massu's cheek as if for emphasis. Ryo raises an eyebrow. "Let me guess--it's true?"

Massu shrugs helplessly one last time and Tegoshi shoos him off with an "And make sure to tell Erika-chan how pretty she looks tonight and how much you lo~ve her."

"I don't think I need advice about girls from you, Tegoshi," Ryo responds wryly, but waves goodbye and heads off to Erika's anyway; he's running late.

-

"Chocolate frosted cupcakes," Erika says, sounding rather astounded when Ryo hands the basket to her. Ryo smiles inwardly when Erika carefully opens the wrapping and tries a bite of one. Her hand flies to her mouth.

"This is really good," she says, and the incredulity in her voice has tripled. Ryo is busy patting himself on the back when she adds, "Tell Masuda-kun I said thank you."

"What--no, I totally didn't--I--" Erika raises an eyebrow and Ryo groans. "Okay, I didn't make it--but--"

"It's okay," Erika says, shaking her head. There's an amused smile on her face, which he takes as a good sign. Maybe. "The fact that you tried to think in terms other than money makes this the best birthday present ever."

"R-Really?" Ryo asks, surprised. Erika wrinkles her nose.

"Oh, hell no. But you can buy me A5 from the Tiffany's catalogue, instead. It's $5000."

"Thank you," Ryo says earnestly, and Erika laughs.

"It'll be the second best birthday present I get this year."

Ryo frowns, "Wait--what's the first?"

Erika flips her phone open and Ryo stares in horror at the image of him, in a pink apron, covered in flour and cake batter--with a yellow clip in his hair.

"I hate him," Ryo declares. Erika just laughs harder.
