Last night, his eyes were hazel. They were actually always brown, but at the right angle, flecks of green and gold were visible - sort of like a reflected field of wild flowers. He smelled like the rain; refreshing and clean, inscrutable and temporary.
Last night, they sped down the highway. She radiated with pulchritude. The stars were scintillating just for her, and the two entities laid on their backs and counted those diamonds until they ran out of numbers. For the first time in her life, she saw infinity. They got out of the ’74 Corvette and started walking. She skipped along a cobblestone path and snuck furtive glances at him. He noticed. She blushed.
Last night, she stared at him and started to converse with him. She shed her armor and shone in all frangibility. She spilled everything and her words ran in circles. They spun around and around and around. And then she started to cry.
"Please don’t be so prolix," said he.
So she wiped her tears and paused before whispering, "I love you."
He read her for several seconds until she turned invisible. And then he said, "I don't know the time, but it's getting dark and I think we should go now."
Last night, he lost the time.
Last night, she misplaced her heart.
