I'm not exactly sure how many of you are familiar with the TV show "Firefly", but let me give a brief synopsis. "Firefly" was a sci-fi show written by Joss Whedon, the creator of both "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel". The concept was sort of like "western-in-space", focused around the crew of a small spaceship called "Serenity", and it followed their exploits on the fringe of future society, pitted against both savage space pirates and a corrupt galactic government. It was an amazing show, according to viewers and critics alike, but it was cancelled after half a season because FOX is dumb and gave it a shitty time slot. Their loss, though, because the show proceeded to become amazingly popular after being released on DVD, enough so that Universal decided to let Joss make a major motion picture based on the show. Yeah, movie based on a TV show that lasted half a season, that's how cool it is.
So this movie, called "Serenity", was supposed to come out this spring/summer, but for various reasons (probably including a desire not to conflict with SW3) the release date was pushed back to this September. Millions of eager fans were quite disappointed at the extra few months.
I saw it last night. It's awesome.
I won't talk about it at all, for the sake of people who haven't had a chance to view it yet, but I will say this: When this movie hits theaters for real, go see it. Take your friends, take your family, take your pets. I'd tell you to see it multiple times, but I'm confident that after the first time you'll be addicted anyway. For one thing, it's worth it, but for another, if sales for this movie go as well as they did for the TV show, then this will certainly not be the last we see of the Firefly universe.
That's all for now.
