I've seen smoke in the night sky. I think it stands out more than the fire. Entire libraries go up, turning to ash, and all you can see is smoke. It's a beacon, showing what once was there. Entire books to ashes and their ideas? Smoke in the treetops. A billowing mass of absolutely nothing.
Fires go out. Ash blows away. Smoke dissipates. And nothing's left but...nothing. A hollowed out home, ready for the next person. A parlor with empty screens, with no relatives to waste the time.
Monday burn Millay, Wednesday Whitman, Friday Faulkner, burn 'em to ashes, then burn the ashes.
How many repetitions does it take before it starts to sound absurd? How many before it starts to make sense again?
a lying liar who lies,
burn the ashes,
capitalist dreams,
totalitarian tea parties,
i have a soapbox,
burn 'em to ashes,
your books make you insane,
cigarettes and smoke
