I am in love.

With life.

So mom and dad and I packed everything into the car and drove 4 1/3 hours to my apartment in Boston. The building is blue. It’s on a street full of Italian food and gelato. Boston is amazing because 80 percent of it is made up of college students. The rest are homeless people and the people who work at the colleges. And their little kids. There’s no middle school or high school kids there. My ‘rents spent 3 days helping me move in. They helped with everything, and then moved back. I am the lukiest person in the world to have parents who care for me.
So I am going to spend this year in an apartment with three other girls, 20 minutes away from our school, with a projector and a Wii in the livingroom, and my own room. I absolutely LOVE having my own room. It’s really small though. It’s cute looking, kinda. It’s my very own personal space. I own it. Me. It’s only mine. I am the lukiest person in the world to have my own room.
Tonight was the orientation dance. I can’t believe I actually had fun at a dance. I can’t believe I actually danced! And I wasn’t even drunk! Haha. There were balloons and blow up guitars and plastic hats scattered about the room. There was a live band. You signed up to go on stage with the band and sing a song song, karaoke, while the band played and sometimes joined in singing. So, they were popular songs and everyone knew them and sang along and danced. Emerson is the BEST school EVER. I am the lukiest person in the world to go to the best college ever.
And do you know what? I can be whoever I want to be. I can drop the preconceived notions I have in my head of trivial barriers (such as genetics and habits) which tie me down. Yes, people are formed from everything and everyone around the person in their life. But we are not completely helpless. We have an exceptional skill called decision making. We can pick which things will affect us more, and which will affect us less - or not at all. I can learn every single day until I’m 100 years old. I can evict stress from my day-to-day life. I can learn any skill I want - like focusing and listening and imagination. I can stop being afraid of being afraid. I am the lukiest person in the world to be able to be whoever I want to be.
