Natural's Not In It

This one's been floating around for a long, long time. But, as these posts often do, it takes a specific thing to make me point out, once again, that the game is fucking fixed.

The thing about those close-up pictures is that everyone in them probably looks a lot better in person (even *gasp* up close) because there's no way to weirdly adjust the brightness/contrast like that in meatspace. This just in: poorly-edited photos are unflattering! (Also, foundation shouldn't be caked on to the point where it looks like a rubbery mask. But maybe the editing just brings that aspect out. I DON'T KNOW.)

I also dislike the "wear makeup to look effortless because you totally don't wear makeup" thing. Mostly because I think, if you're going to go through the effort, you should end up with something more interesting than "your regular face but vaguely different." Makeup is cool because you obviously put pretty-colored stuff on your face. Or used more muted tones to subtly highlight different features. Also, some people like it and some people don't, which is totally okay. It should be a style option, not a hygiene obligation that you go through so you can fool people in to thinking your face came with that lipstick, dammit, and it's downright silly to expect people to do so.

(And now I'm wondering what it would take to convince people that my nails are naturally this blue and glittery. XD)
