Natural's Not In It

This one's been floating around for a long, long time. But, as these posts often do, it takes a specific thing to make me point out, once again, that the game is fucking fixed.

So yeah. Makeup. And this damn thing. Ten "scary celebrity closeups" *cue spooky theremin*. All I'm seeing are nine women who adhere to the standards of beauty and Iggy Pop ( Read more... )

wtf is this shit, fashion, media, feminist stuff, gender, feminism

So many pores on my screen right now. <-- OH NO! PORES!

Anyway.

I stopped wearing makeup a long time ago. It's probably been at least a year since I put any on, even for a special occasion. I just stopped caring. It was expensive and I was tired of wasting my money. It also annoys me for it to be on my face. And I hate washing it off only to have most of it stay. So I said fuck it.

My complexion has thanked me for it, actually.

Aside from this week (THREE HUGE PIMPLES OMG lol, probably due to stress/getting a cold/just randomness) I rarely break out anymore.

And you know ... I don't even think most people notice. And it certainly hasn't kept me from gettin' laid.

But, I understand why women choose to wear it. Sometimes I am jealous of their patience (I have none) and ability (I lack talent in applying makeup).

As obsessed as I am, I wear it like less than half the time. Pretty much only when I actually really want to. (Unless my health is being shitty, in which case i wear it because I am sick to death of "OMG are you okay???")

I respect the choice to do either, as long as the choice is there. The world is kinda fucked, and you gotta do what you gotta do to get by. And for those who enjoy it, it's fun as fuck.

Your last paragraph basically sums up my feelings on it. :)

I wish I enjoyed it. I have a few friends (this includes a few drag queens!) who have AMAZING makeup skills. I have just never been patient enough for it, really.

I enjoy most things to do involving paint and the alteration of regular human appearance, so it would be weird of me to avoid the most commonly accepted way to do it.

As with most skills, it does take a bit of learning, but if a person's not interested or inclined, there's better shit for them to do.

Oh, I do try to get my eyebrows waxed when I can afford it. It makes a huge difference! I have a really good shape, but they tend to be kinda bushy and while I don't have a unibrow, there are some fuzzies there as well, hehe. Really brightens up my face, no makeup needed!

That's about all I do. I don't even know where my blow dryer is. I am way, way too lazy for typical girly stuff haha.

Eyebrows make a ton of difference. I'm generally skin-obsessed due to having had skin problems most of my life, so I spend a lot more work on keeping the issues away than makeup. Plus, I resent the idea of "needing" concealer, so I just try to keep my skin happy, and just add really unnatural colours on top.

When my hair gets too long, I blowdry. I also then very shortly thereafter get a haircut.

And I really want to get rid of the idea of not wanting to spend extra, not-actually-necessary time on beauty work being laziness. Beauty work is a damn extra.

I have Brooke Shields eyebrows and I think I rock 'em. But YMMV.

I wear makeup for dates, job interviews, and a few other occasions. And then it gets scrubbed off right afterward.

I do get pimples, but that's mainly because I can't break myself of the habit of touching my face, nor of the habit of picking at those little wiry premenopausal hairs on my chin. Although sometimes I do get them on my forehead if I wear the same hat too often without washing it.

I'm an obsessive non-face-toucher. Because otherwise, things go to hell fast. But I always want to! ARGH.

I do allow for picking, poking and prodding on non-face areas anytime and facial ones when I'm washing. Gotta let it out sometime.
