Some musical name-dropping

Yet another reason to rage uselessly at the complete unfairness that is not living in the UK has surfaced in the form of the Slam Dunk Festival. Less than Jake, Goldfinger, MC Lars, Anti-Flag, and a bunch of other bands are playing in Leeds. America has such a stagnant punk scene, and there's nothing I can do about it but sit and watch other parts of the world have more fun than me. And yet some unrealistic corner of my brain is still trying its hardest to figure out how I can get there. I'm a repeat offender when it comes to wishful thinking.

Then there's Groezrock, an annual festival in Belgium, that has Flogging Molly, NoFx, Dropkick Murphys, Anberlin, and Streetlight Manifesto--but then again, there's also a bunch of emo bands that would probably be annoying to have to maneuver through. But the point still stands.

I guess I should acknowledge that all of the US doesn't suck when it comes to hearing some good ska or punk rock. Sometimes I daydream about moving to Gainsville, Florida, just to see what Less than Jake is so enthusiastic about, or New Jersey just to hear Streetlight and other great bands play the legendary Starland Ballroom.

I'm not complaining, by the way; I'm just imagining. Besides, Warped Tour is shaping up nicely this year. Yeah, I'm a bit too old for it and I can never get anyone to do anything with me, but I'm imagining again. Just closer to home this time. Anyway, MC Lars, Big D, Lionize, the Aggrolites, and the Exposed so far...it might be enough to tolerate a bunch of fifteen year-olds wearing black t-shirts and fauxhawks.
