First impressions of Ithaca College.
The day went on forever. First my parents and I went to the Niagara Falls, which was pretty impressive, and wet. There is so much water falling that there is a perpetual mist that rises from the pit where the river stars, which means the area surrounding the Falls is always having a rainstorm.
The drive was long. It was only a 3 hour drive that turned into a 5 hour drive. We had lunch at the Cheese Cake Factory and that took a while. I didn’t like Buffalo much, but I didn’t see much. In fact I really don’t like much of the rest of NY. I don’t know why. I like Ithaca, its nice here and it’s really laid back, but a lot of the other small towns seem much more conservative. Ithaca seems almost like California on the Liberal scale. There were parts that were a lot like Michigan, and I liked those parts. Waterloo looked interesting, but overall I just didn’t like much of the state.
Man, it’s humid here, really, incredibly, humid. I am glad to have some good shorts and some cool water. I am not decided into thinking that this humidity will last. Snow is supposed to come in November and last until March. I brought winter gear as well as my usual California clothing.
I have met my roommate Derrick. He seems to be a nice fellow, right off the bat he has tried to get to know me well, and unfortunately I can’t hear him very well. That will get better as time goes on… hopefully. My room isn’t bad, it has a bed and a bathroom, I have a kitchen, and a closet and my roommate brought a TV. That is pretty sweet, I brought the kitchenware, but I am not sure how much we will actually use it. I will probably for cheerios, but I am not much of a cook, so no gourmet food from me! Luckily, I am on the meal plan so I don’t have to worry about food, I have already had Ithaca’s food when I went to orientation, so I know it’s actually pretty decent.
I am lacking two things, a Internet Cable, and a Parking Permit, I hope to repair both of these situations soon. Tomorrow morning hopefully, however it is going to be a full day. I have to meet my Academic advisor, and do some other activities. I really wish I thought to at least get an internet cable. Alas I didn’t!
My RA had a little meeting, it wasn’t anything big, just a little, introduce yourself and what is your major. Other buildings are having parties outside, I went to one, where they were cooking s’mores and playing games. That was pretty cool. I am a little apprehensive of what life will be like here. I have seen quite a few people. They all seem nice, and friendly. It is still going to be a big adjustment from California. I have no idea why I wanted to do this, but I have faith that somehow this is what I should be doing.
That was last nights stream of thought post.
As of now I am as weary as hell. I have been walking all over the campus, talking to many people, and been trying to get a feel of the place. Nothing has WOW'ed me yet, and I am still on the fence if I am wise to go across the frikken country and go to Ithaca of all places. I could have gone to UCSB! Or even UC Berkly (I checked the transfer requirements, I had a good chance). I have heard that the school has been upping the cost every year, if they increase cost again like they did this year ( by over 5 grand), I will proably go back to Cali, where it's way cheaper. With that said, I have met some really nice people, and have talked to some professors and they all seemed like they really care. The head of the Speech Dept seems to have taken a little extra energy to make me feel welcome. She invited me to a lunch with two other students sometime to chat and get to know each other. I'm not sure why, but if she is paying I'm game.
I am going to make myself go through at least one year. I have invested a lot to be here and if I really do have the best year of my life so far, and I need to leave for financial reasons, I still think it would be worth it. I do miss Cali, but I like it here to.
Anyway off to otherstuff.
