Nursing story.

Every time we mention the election to SAM, he says, "Are you going to vote?" :) He was much impressed by the voting machines last week. He disapproves of the voting age requirement. :)

In weight news, managed to lose the gained pounds, plus one more, last week. 25 pounds lost! :) This week the Halloween candy lying around, plus the event, will most likely destroy me. Trying anyway, though.

I was lucky with nursing, since SAM knew what to do all on his own, immediately. I had taken a breastfeeding class (a few hours before I went into labor, it was the last thing I had to get done before I was ready for the baby, and I guess that's what he was waiting for), but the class didn't mention how slippery a newborn baby was going to be. He knew what to do despite my clumsiness, and latched on about five minute after he was born. We never had any problems nursing from that point on. I had a pretty strong letdown for the first few months, but it never seemed to bother him - he was a fast nurser. We've never needed formula - never even had any in the house.

There's not a whole lot more to say. We introduced him to expressed milk from a bottle when he was six weeks old, just to see if it would work, I suppose, and he had no problems with that either - and no nipple confusion or anything like that. He was the same when we introduced him to solid food at seven months - a natural eater, no matter where the food was coming from. We didn't do bottles much - just on long car trips and when I was away now and then.

When he turned two, he seemed to lose interest slightly. He still wanted to nurse at all the usual times - unless something distracted him. And if I wasn't there, he didn't seem to miss nursing much. We gradually gave up some of his usual nursing times, and I thought for a while that he was going to eventually wean himself, but lately he's been adding some of those times back in. These days he often wants to nurse in the mid-morning and when he wakes up from nap, and for a while he had been skipping those times. He'll be three in a few months, and I guess we'll see where we go from here. :)

Ow, kitten clawing my foot that fell asleep. Ow.
