Today I parked behind my work because I had stuff to bring in. When I went to leave for the day I got in my car and as I was driving out of the driveway I heard a "thump" and realized my tire was flat. Pulled back in to the parking lot, and went to change the tire. Clearly slashed. I tweeted about it, and a couple people from work came out to hang out with me while I put on the spare, and they confirmed my suspicions that it had been stabbed (several times - at least 4).
Put on the spare and drove it down surface streets to the Discount Tire on Genesee where I bought the tires in the first place and the guy had some good news for me. Turns out I had bought some warranty/certificate thing when I got the tires, and they replaced my tire for FREE! Rad. In and out in 20 minutes, and only took an hour out of my day, total, for this whole mess to be over.
I'm fairly certain this was politically motivated. I recently put an "I Do" (support marriage equality) bumper sticker on my car, and what with all the Prop 8 stuff going on today I think someone decided that my tires were a good place to vent. So to that person, I say: "Fuck you!" At least it didn't really cost me anything but time (and $19 to renew the certificate). That said, if I find out who slashed my tire, I'm gonna slash their foot.
