1. I must say I am pleased that the more largely funded candidates of Clinton and Romney found themselves in a bit of a pit this evening. While Iowa is only one race, I find the power of persistance refreshing. That said, I am pleased with Edwards in second, and frightened ever so mildly by Huckabee in first.
2. All bets are off until Super Tuesday/Sweet 16/Whatever the fuck they're calling the clusterfuck day of multitudenous caucuses. New Hampshire could shore up Huckabee and Edwards against Romney and Hillary respectively, but both of the later also have the funds to pull it off. The difference is focus: Edwards focused time but also has dedicated a national campaign, although not as strongly as Giuliani, who essentially told Iowa to fuck off.
3. One observation: The crowds behind the candidates were curiously telling. Obama and Edwards had far younger crowds than Hillary, who if you noted, seemed to be surrounded by half of Bill's former cabinet staff. (For humor value, see Chuck Norris at Huckabee, grinning like a feral cat.) That said, I find this telling, as I think Obama and Edwards have more of that appeal, having actually cared to take youth questions seriously and work with those populations. (Ok, so Edwards and Obama appeared on the myspace/mtv debate. Yes, I watched. Yes, both were far more congenial and foward in answering questions and, gasp, acting human than Hillary ever will be.)
4. No, you will not convince me that Hillary is not a snake. If she wins at all, I will be voting Natural Law come November. For evidence as to her lack of ability, I point to her congressional voting record. I don't care what she did 15-20 years ago. I care what she did in the last 8.
for once,
