We had some kitty drama yesterday. I woke up early to exercise, fed the cats, and Skye (see userpic, one of my sister's kitties) was acting funny. He would start to eat and then shake his head, lick his lips and then his lower jaw would kind of ... vibrate? I picked him up to have a look and saw some pinkish stuff on his chin and one of his paws. I couldn't get a good look inside his mouth myself (he made me bleed trying) so I woke Brian and basically we decided to take him to the vet. Eventually, by the time we were both showered and ready to go, Brian had seen him actually eating, and then found what looked like a cut on the roof of his mouth. Lightbulbs went off -- the door to the pantry had been open when I woke up, and one of the cat food bags is made of plastic, with some pretty sharp edges. So we called off the emergency and decided to watch him closely, figuring there's not much to do when there's a cut in MY mouth, so there's likely not much to do for a cat either. We'll keep an eye on him to make sure it doesn't get infected or anything, but otherwise, we're not worrying too much. We got him some wet food so that wouldn't hurt him so much to eat when we went out and he ate that fine. He acted pitiful all day, but otherwise was pretty normal. Yesterday afternoon, I found Ernie (big black and white kitty, my sister's other cat) with his big ol' paws under the pantry door. Hm.
This morning, when Brian woke up, the door was open again, and the aforementioned cat food bag was dragged out of the closet, and they had managed to get a nice kitty-head-sized hole along the seam in the back. The bag seems pretty light, and they weren't as hungry as normal when they got fed this morning either. Turns out, that door doesn't entirely latch...and they have figured it out. We'll have to do something about that before we go to bed tonight I guess.
Skye is acting normal today, by the way. Not licking his lips so much, eating the dry food, begging for attention but not acting all pitiful. So we think he will be fine.
