Bad news from Hawai'i
A lawyer who founded Public Access Shoreline Hawaii which obtained a state Supreme Court ruling that Hawaiians can exercise traditional rights on private properties if the land is not developed died in a car accident.
Do people remember George Helm???? Well he was a Hawaiian from Moloka'i and he was an excellent swimmer yet he was lost at sea in 1977. This is a pic of George Helm:

Activist, 3 others killed in Big Island 2-car collision:
Jerry Rothstein, his wife, and a mainland pair die in the crash
KAILUA-KONA >> Environmentalist and public rights activist Jerry Rothstein was among four people who died as the result of a two car, head-on collision on Queen Kaahumanu Highway north of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island yesterday evening, Hawaii County Councilwoman Virginia Isbell confirmed today. Also killed was Rothstein’s wife Judy and a Minnesota couple whose names were not immediately released by police.
Isbell called Rothstein “Mr. Community” for his work for public rights.
Rothstein founded Public Access Shoreline Hawaii which obtained a state Supreme Court ruling that Hawaiians can exercise traditional rights on private properties if the land is not developed.
Police and other emergency personnel were called to the scene at about 6:25 p.m. Police said the car driven by Judy Rothstein had crossed the center line of the highway, causing the crash.
Jerry Rothstein was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital. County fire department paramedics had described him as in extremely critical condition. He died at 7:30 p.m.
Police said the Rothsteins’ 1990 Toyota 4-door station wagon was headed toward Kailua when it crossed the center line about 20 miles north of Kailua and hit an oncoming 2004 Saturn 4-door sedan with the Minnesota couple.
Fire officials found all four victims still in the cars. Police said they hadn’t determined whether speed or alcohol were factors. Police began a coroner’s inquest in the death of Judy Rothstein to determine if alcohol or medical conditions were involved.
They also began negligent homicide investigations regarding the other three, a standard procedure.
The deaths bring the Big Island traffic toll for the year to five, compared to none at the same time last year.
