On Hawaiians Inaccurately Portrayed in the Local Media

Feb 18, 2006 12:15

In the local papers like the Honolulu Advertiser and the Honolulu Starbulletin the editors seem to make Hawaiians look like vile monsters who hate America. This is furthest from the truth. The truth is that I am a registered Republican as well as a member of the National Rifle Association. Surprise! Unfortunately the local media likes to make us look as though Hawaiians hate America. That is untrue. Also my name gives it away. It is a HAOLE name and despite what people like "Tom" or "Frank" mistakenly think about Hawaiians I am proud to be American as well as Hawaiian. I love this country! I also love the Kingdom of Hawaii... and I am not the only Hawaiian who feels this way. Anyway this was my response to someone who has fallen into their trap:

"Do NOT go by the sound bites. They are neither accurate nor precise nor do they give the FULL picture.

I LOVE America [sic]. I also LOVE the Kingdom of Hawaii. Do not ASSume that ALL Hawaiians hate America or that we think that we are better than others. If anything it's that others think that they are better than us and look down on us. Your responses epitomize this.

Also the nation of Hawaii was in existence at about 1820. The US came in and slowly invaded our country just as it is doing to Iraq. As an American... this is EMBARRASSING. Now Hawaiians are pointing this out but if we were Iraqis or Jews being "invaded" by Palestinians... people would be all over their ass for disrespecting the aforementioned but since we are Hawaiian and we are all supposedly millionaires who supposedly receive special treatment because of the media making us look like monsters or as LESS THAN HUMAN. It is NOT our fault that others did that to us and continue to do that to us. However if you lack compassionate then fine. Live your life that way. That is your choice but understand that there are MANY Hawaiians who are compassionate. Some of us were raised THAT way. If you don't like it then again... it is best to get out of our way because we still not going listen to you nor to anyone else plus it is OUR RIGHT to speak up. That is what makes America so great!"
