Vanitas & Ventus Narration 01
Vanitas returned to the room he was sharing with Ventus, Sora, and Riku in Disney
Town with a lot of mixed emotions visible in his expression, although chiefly among them was
an obvious air of confusion over what he had been doing the whole day. At the moment he was
also feeling rather embarrassed, thanks in no small part to Yuffie's teasing expression
before he ran away from the room most of the girls were staying in, although he also felt a
strange sense of relief and was also unusually happy with how things had gone. And that
definitely wasn't normal for him.
"Where have you been?" Ventus stared accusingly at him when Vanitas finally entered
the room to join the other boys for the night.
"The arcade down in the lobby," Vanitas shrugged and tried to ignore the way Ventus
was looking at him. "Anyway, what are you upset about?"
"Wait, are you smiling?" Ventus was now looking at him incredulously.
"Who knows?" Vanitas shrugged again. "Maybe I am. I guess you might say I was even
having fun."
"You ditched me to be alone with that girl again!" Ventus persisted with that
accusatory tone in his voice.
Vanitas matched his stare now. "She didn't care for the concert and she would have
gotten lost if someone hadn't stayed with her. Besides, you didn't exactly need me anyway."
"You can't just abandon me like that!" Ventus was clearly very upset. Sora and Riku
were both sitting on the bed they had taken for themselves watching the two boys argue with
interest, ready to intervene at a moment's notice if the argument became too heated, although
it didn't seem like that was going to happen.
"I came back, didn't I?" Vanitas shot back. He was becoming increasingly annoyed
with Ven's unnecessary whining and went to his belongings to take out his pajamas before he
headed to the bathroom. "You're bothering me so I'm going to take a shower by myself
tonight."
Vanitas was silent as he let the hot water wash over him, using his time alone to
think on the events of the day. It was confusing, although he did acknowledge he had been
having fun. He was also surprised by how Ventus seemed so upset over being left behind when
normally it seemed like Ven would be glad to be rid of him. Ventus did complain about the
way Vanitas habitually clung to him back on Radiant Garden. And it wasn't as though Vanitas
had totally abandoned Ventus and left him all alone either. He had left Ventus with Sora and
his friends in a primarily safe location where it was unlikely anything too bad would happen
to him.
Eventually he shut off the water and stepped out of the shower to dry off so he could
put on his pajamas to go to bed. After spending all day running around Disney Town on little
sleep Vanitas was very much exhausted.
Vanitas finished with his shower and returned to the main part of the hotel room to
find that Sora and Riku had already gotten into bed together as usual. They were already
sound asleep. He glanced to the other bed to find that Ventus had already gotten changed
into his pajamas as well, although he was clearly still awake as he was lying on his side and
glaring at the wall, obviously still very upset about being left behind earlier. Vanitas
hesitated a moment before settling onto the bed next to Ven, keeping his back to him. The
two boys remained silently in that position for a while until Ventus couldn't stand it
anymore. He rolled himself over and wrapped his arms around Vanitas, burying his face
against Vanitas's back.
"I don't want for you to start hating me again," Ventus sounded like he must have
been crying. Vanitas tensed slightly at first, but then he relaxed and listened quietly to
Ven's words.
"Idiot," Vanitas couldn't help it if he sounded snarky when he said it. "Just
because I had some fun with a girl who thinks you're as much of a loser as I do doesn't mean
I'm going to start hating you."
Vanitas shifted around so that he could actually face Ventus so that instead of
clinging to his back he was now clinging to Vanitas's chest. "Honestly Ven, it's not like
you to worry so much about what I think of you."
"I know that!" Ventus kept his face buried against Vanitas's chest. "I don't even
know why the thought of that scares me so much. I mean, it's not like you're the same
twisted person you were when I first met you. Sometimes you're even nice to me now."
Vanitas sighed tiredly and wrapped his own arms around Ventus, hugging him lightly
with an amused laugh. "You really are an idiot. Did it ever occur to you that maybe I
really don't want for you to hate me either?"
"Then maybe we're both idiots, huh?" Ventus didn't sound so upset anymore and he
seemed to have stopped crying so that was a relief for Vanitas. As much as he sometimes
liked to mess with Ven, Vanitas didn't actually want to make him sad or anything like that.
"Then I guess I'm sorry that I scared you like that," Vanitas apologized and
continued to hold onto Ventus until they both eventually fell asleep.
