Torchwood Reaction

This was a compelling, gripping, dark, complex miniseries. It was heart-wrenching and thought-provoking. What it wasn't, was Torchwood.

Torchwood had it's grit. It had it moments of darkness. It also had wit and snark and compelling relationships both the characters and viewers found comfort in. True, that grit was always present and sometimes left you rubbed raw, but watching these last two parts was like being crushed by boulders.

To quote a friend, what a well-written, well-acted piece of nihilistic crap.

This would appear to be the end of Torchwood. It looks like the next season must either follow Jack as he struggles with all this, or an all-new Torchwood, without Jack, without the fun. Or, they could magically make everything better, with nary a nod to what had been 26 episode of thematic and character development. Either way, I don't think I'll be watching. This isn't the show I defended, loved, and watched repeatedly the past three years. It's an X-Files ripoff. Now with added Battlestar Galactica! When I want to watch the X-Files, or Battlestar Galactica, I'll watch them. When I want to watch Torchwood, I won't be going to this season.

This was a wonderful miniseries. But it was crap Torchwood.

I would like to add that this is the sort of thing AU fic was invented for. Let's make fandom a happy place people.

torchwood, rant, ianto jones bamf
