because i'm happy.
Taekwoon wakes up to arms encircling his torso and cold toes prodding his ankles; when he turns around and reaches for his phone, he finds that it's only two in the morning.
Jaehwan sniffles into his back; Taekwoon guesses his shirt is being used as a tissue again, but he's too tired to mind. He half-heartedly attempts to shake Jaehwan off but the younger only tightens his grip and snuggles closer.
"What's wrong?" Taekwoon whispers.
"Nothing," Jaehwan mutters in response. "I'm just happy. Really, really happy." More sniffles. Taekwoon sighs and closes his eyes again, resolving to finally throw his sleepshirt into the wash in the morning.
He finds the DVD disc to Titanic on the floor next to Jaehwan's laptop on his way to the laundry basket.

there's a spreading lip balm crisis in the industry.
Hakyeon and his cherished lifetime stash of lip balm have become the envy of all the other idols. The girls can't wear their lip products without flaking skin showing, and boys keep coming in with split lips when they haven't been fighting, ruining boy-next-door concepts and pretty boy hip-hop groups alike. The lip balm drought is a crisis for the k-pop industry but Taekwoon is determined to survive the winter by the skin of his teeth (or at least, with it still intact).
Taekwoon's lips feel like a desert. He won't admit as much though, even when his lips have cracked several times in the past few days. Hakyeon generously offers the other five of them a strawberry-scented chapstick and tells them to share, but when Sanghyuk opens the cap, Taekwoon's nose automatically scrunches up.
"Your turn, hyung," Hongbin says, passing the chapstick to him. Taekwoon shakes his head and passes it to Wonshik. The other boys throw him quizzical glances but don't say anything.
Jaehwan's walking down the hallway, brushing his teeth, later that night when he stops Taekwoon. "Hyung," he says, toothbrush muffling his words. "Blood on your lip."
He sighs quietly and goes to the bathroom to wash it off. Jaehwan comes in later to spit out his toothpaste. He watches Taekwoon in the mirror.
"Just use hyung's lip balm," Jaehwan says, twisting open the cap. Taekwoon covers his nose immediately. Jaehwan's mouth fixes into an "o."
"You don't like the smell?" Taekwoon shoots him a sharp look. Jaehwan smiles fondly in response.
He watches as Jaehwan applies the chapstick over his lips. Then, he leans in towards Taekwoon and places his lips firmly over his. Taekwoon can't smell the artificial strawberry at all - it's just Jaehwan, Jaehwan and his soft lips on his -
Jaehwan laughs when he pulls away. "Now your face is as red as a strawberry, hyung!"
Taekwoon feels his face heat up more. He slaps Jaehwan's arm hard.
The next morning, Sanghyuk comments that Hakyeon looks like a zombie in the morning. Hakyeon hisses in response.
"I don't see any chapped lips in this dorm, so I think I look more like your savior."

protect your fever dreams.
Hakyeon returns from the woods after two sleepless nights to see Sanghyuk and Hongbin sitting around a dying fire, the last embers catching all the tired lines on their faces; Sanghyuk's eyes are purple with the dusk when they look up at him - when he looks back down, Hakyeon sees that they're still the dark, reflecting irises afflicted by one too many visits by a dream wraith.
"Jaehwan hyung has a fever," Hongbin tells him, playing with the charred wood in between them, fingers callused from what Hakyeon assumes are healing burns - anything to keep me awake, hyung, Sanghyuk's told me what they do and I just...can't sleep if that'll happen -
Hakyeon rushes past them into the tent; fever dreams are the most vulnerable, the most vivid, and the most ruthless, he remembers his father telling him the night he was taught how to repel a wraith. The most vulnerable, and Hakyeon can't have a nightmare scar Jaehwan like it scarred Sanghyuk - woke up too late and Sanghyuk was already twisting, half-awake, whites in his eyes red, screaming Hakyeon hyung, Hakyeon hyung; it can't be Jaehwan, who talks too loud and too much, who smiles so bright when he gets Sanghyuk and Hongbin to finally laugh, who holds his hand when he's exhausted and sleepless -
"Hi," the younger boy smiles weakly when his eyes find Hakyeon's silhouette in the darkness, "You look tired - "
Hakyeon shakes his head and kneels next to him, searching for one of Jaehwan's hands in between the covers; "You can sleep now," Hakyeon tells him once he finds it, as cold as waking up into a dream where he exists in a vacuum of pitch black, "You can sleep now," and Jaehwan opens his mouth to protest, but Hakyeon shushes him.
He watches as Jaehwan's eyelids grow heavy with sleep before closing completely. Hakyeon takes a deep breath and slips into Jaehwan's dream with him.

with a name i'd never chosen, i can make my first steps as a child of 25.
Born as Jung Taekwoon, he receives a new name at the age of twenty-two to hopefully catalyze their claim to fame.
Leo, someone tells him one day. That's your stage name. Easier to remember, Hakyeon, who already renamed himself as "N," tells him. Taekwoon - now Leo, he guesses - doesn't say anything in response.
He gets used to it eventually - their manager makes this "No Taekwoon" rule in their dorm (which everyone ignores after the first day when Hongbin, half-asleep, mumbles "Taekwoon hyung" when he's blocking the way to the toilet), more and more fans scream "Leo!" during performances and at fansigns (though he hears several Taekwoon's from those who have been following VIXX since MyDol, and more after official fanchants decide to use all of their full names), and variety show hosts give him expectant looks after they say "Leo-ssi," expecting him to answer (he usually stays silent until one of the other members gets the hint and says something in his place). But sometimes when he sees himself on screen, he thinks about it - Leo always appears silent and somewhat scary in that silence, but he knows Taekwoon can't takes his eyes off of fluffy, small animals and children. Is that me? he wonders when they finally see their episode of Weekly Idol (he's stiff as a board but he doesn't remember looking that annoyed) - and this is also me? when he's laughing at some story his sister tells at the dinner table during new year's.
It takes Wonshik's answer for him to figure it out. Wonshik, who's called himself Ravi since that one day he walked into the practice room and told them all this is my stage name, looks at him and says, "I'm Ravi and Ravi is me. But I'm also Wonshik, and that's me too. They're both me, you know?"
He has to think about it. Leo can be scary, but he has Taekwoon's passion for singing and doing what he loves on stage. And in Taekwoon's guarded expression is what others interpret as Leo's "scariness."
Maybe Leo and Taekwoon aren't so different, after all.
Born Jung Taekwoon and given the name Leo at age twenty-two, he's twenty-five when he finally understands that names are just names - names can define you, sure - but in his case, the person beneath them both remain the same.

sprinkles and dimples.
Jaehwan hears a crash from the other side of the bakery and groans when he realizes it must be the clumsy, recently hired boy who has a knack for decorating cakes. Jaehwan's starting to regret hiring him as he pushes open the doors to the kitchen to inspect the damage.
Hongbin's crouched over a sad pile of fallen cupcakes. Jaehwan sighs overdramatically and clicks his tongue. "What am I going to do with you?"
Hongbin looks at him with a sheepish smile on his face. Vanilla frosting and sprinkles are stuck to his cheeks and dimples. Adorable, deep dimples and suddenly Jaehwan can't stop staring.
"I'm sorry?" Hongbin offers shyly and Jaehwan can't not forgive him with his wounded puppy look.
Jaehwan really, really regrets hiring him now (but not really).

parkour practice.
Wonshik feels himself flying. His feet graze the ledge, and then he's over it, landing safely on the sidewalk.
"Oh my god, I did it, Hongbin! I did it, did you see that, I didn't even stumble, can you believe it because I can't oh my god those two months of classes really paid off - "
He turns around to see Hongbin smiling as he attempts the same vault as Wonshik, jumping over the two-foot-tall ledge separating his mother's garden from the street. His long legs extend and he reaches out to put his hand down on the ledge -
Which he misses in favor of grasping empty air. Hongbin falls on his face.

he's such a beautiful soul and i'm just so scared because he told me about a stunning girl with a wild heart and he's consumed in her radiance and my hands are red and shaking and i'm not quite sure what to do anymore.
He's always dripping in blood after the deed is done. His hands are cold as they claw at his own torso, like it's foreign - not connected to his body. Joohyun holds them and the iron bleeds onto her own skin, rose smearing over her wrists and saturating into the lines of her palms.
Taekwoon, she says, but he's still clawing, everywhere now, scrambling to hold onto anything - her, her arms, her hair. Taekwoon, but he's whispering now, feverent - I killed her, I killed her, Joohyun, I don't know - and Joohyun's hands tremble because she loves him so much, this is not you, Taekwoon, it's just what you do -
His fingers find the sides of her face. They latch on, as if this is the anchor - this is what's keeping him from consuming another beautiful girl's heart, this is what's keeping him sane when what he does isn't. But I'll never swallow your heart, he told her once, looking straight into Joohyun's eyes and she was blinded because his soul was in them, staring right back at her in an irisdescent film of colors. I'll never swallow your heart, but he has to swallow someone's and they get hurt and he stains her skin with blood and it hurts but there is no monster looming behind those eyes, no predator with black irises, sucking the life out of her. His eyes are the purest thing Joohyun's ever seen and they're looking straight into hers, beautiful, and beautiful things were always dangerous, always doomed -
She places her hands over his, still trembling. The blood on her skin dries, caked over her nails, and Joohyun doesn't know how much longer she can bear to do this.
This is how it ends.
(it always end like this.)

i never wanna say it's love but it's really what i'm thinking of.
sometimes words are too heavy to describe the most delicate, cotton-soft feelings - the certain kind of smile that tugs its way onto his face when he sees his bandmates having fun - and too frivolous to be used in the most serious of occasions - when lead settles into his chest after going extremely off-pitch; words are a medium, and like any medium of communication, there was always something lost in translation.
beautiful - an adjective, a word - is too simple and singular to encompass everything yuji is and makes him feel; when she smiles at him, either triumphantly after hitting that one high note she'd been struggling with forever or the small upturn of her mouth when they meet eyes after a rehearsal that's run too long, something blooms in his chest that can't just be one thing if anything at all.
so when yuji looks down at her shoes, the night tangling in her hair where the street lights can't catch, and mutters, "i like you, taekwoon," it can't just be love: a four-letter word that can nicely package everything he feels into one syllable.
instead, he finds her hand in the dark. maybe taekwoon imagines the fluttering pulse he feels in her fingertips, and maybe she imagines the matching one in his. maybe it really is love - heart-racing emotions packed into a four-letter word.
or maybe they are just standing there on the sidewalk with matching heart beats, in the darkness where the street lights can't catch them, looking at each other.

where myungsoo introduces hongbin to instagram and chaos ensues.
Myungsoo's confused when he's suddenly invited into the group event EMERGENCY MEETING MEET AT 3:00 IN THE ART ROOM by Sanghyuk, one of Hongbin's friends. Myungsoo has never been particularly close to any of them, but since he's started dating Hongbin, he feels a strong obligation to make a good impression (rather than standing them up, which his cowardly other half tells him to do).
Jaehwan looks at him, miserable from where he's draped over a chair. Wonshik, Sanghyuk, and Hakyeon don't look any better. Only Taekwoon looks somewhat welcoming with his usual pokerface.
Myungsoo swallows nervously. "Is, uh, something wrong?" At that moment, someone's phone goes off and all the other boys start groaning.
"Hongbin hasn't stopped posting on his instagram ever since he got it," Sanghyuk checks his watch, "ten hours ago."
"If I have to see one more picture of the sky with a different filter tagged with some Park Hyoshin lyric, I'm going to throw his phone off the third floor and say Wonshik did it," Jaehwan says sullenly.
Hakyeon puts his hands on Myungsoo's shoulders. "Please," and are those tears in his eyes? "You have to save us, for the good of social media!"
"But what am I supposed to do?" Myungsoo asks, just as someone's phone buzzes again. Another collective hybrid between a scream, whimper, and sob erupts from his boyfriend's friends.
Taekwoon, who had been watching them from his spot near the window this whole time finally pipes up with his soft voice. "I unfollowed him."
