Here's an update on things in my life right now.
School
I'm not sure if I told y'all but I signed up for a couple of classes through UMUC again this semester. I'm hoping these classes are a bit easier than last semester. Here's the class information:
CMST 103: Application Software
An introduction to microcomputers and application (enterprise) software. Hands-on experience with software packages (including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases) is provided. Focus is on concepts, features, and business applications of those facilities.
09/08/08 - 12/14/08 Online
PSYC 305: Research Methods in Psychology
A survey of research methods focusing on the fundamentals of research design and behavior. Topics include scientific writing using APA style, evaluation of research literature, and ethical issues in research. Practice is provided in asking research questions, formulating research hypotheses, designing and conducting a simulated research study, and presenting results.
09/08/08 - 12/14/08 Online
I bought my books last night through half.com and paid only $75 for them all. If I had bought them through the school it would have been closer to $600 for them all. However, one of the required texts for the psych class doesn't seem to exist anywhere. The school doesn't carry it, half.com, ebay, amazon, and various other sources don't have it either. I suppose I'll have to email the teacher once class starts and ask about it.
Trailer
Work on the trailer is going along smoothly. The floors in the kitchen and living room are completed. The kitchen has two out of three lights working. The cabinets are in place, but they still need to be anchored. We're taking over most of our kitchen stuff (plates and pans and appliances and such) today. We still need to get counter tops, but we know where we're getting them from and how much they cost (about $250). We still need to buy a stove (about $300). Mom's buying us a microwave. We're getting a love seat and an over-sized chair from Mike's step brother. I ordered
This stand for the kitchen and
This table and chair set (in white) for the dinning area in the kitchen. The buffet will ship this week, the table and chairs won't ship until October 14th. This week, we're going to finish up the little things in the kitchen and living room. Next weekend we start on the hall, bathroom, small bedroom, and master bedroom. The carpet and linoleum will be pulled up and the floor will be replaced. We're thinking of redoing all of the walls. The ceiling needs to be redone as well. Once all of that is done, we get to go carpet shopping and do some more painting.
Brayden
Brayden has started standing up using everything and walking around while holding onto furniture. It's way too cute. I'll try to get a video of it sometime. He's taken to calling me "La La La", while Mom is "Ama" and Missy is "Mama". It's adorable. Mom went yard-saleing this weekend and found a booster seat with a tray that I'll be able to use once we move into the trailer. She also bought another Exersaucer, so the one we've been using (which is actually Mike's mom's) will also go to the trailer. One of the ladies that work with mom has a port-a-crib we'll be able to borrow. So we're all set for when we move out.
Football
It's football season once again. Pre-season started last week. I normally don't follow pre-season, but I'm going to keep track of how the Pats do. Once regular season starts up, I'll start the football pool again. If you want to participate, please do. The winner (unless it's me) will get a fic written for them (or some other gift I can make if you don't read my fics).
So far, the Pats lost the only game they've played. It was against the Baltimore Ravens. We lost by one point. But keep in mind that we don't play our starters during pre-season because we don't want to risk hurting them. And also keep in mind that the Ravens have one of the best defenses in the league. So we did pretty good. We're looking pretty good, even with practically a whole new team.
Olympics
I love Olympic years. My two favorite sports during the summer Olympics are swimming and gymnastics. Last time, I picked out two athletes from each sport to cheer on, Paul and Morgan Hamm in gymnastics and Michael Phelps and Ian Thorpe in swimming. This time only Phelps is in the Olympics. The Hamm brother had been on the team, but they both dropped out before the start because of injury. This totally saddens me, but there's nothing I can do. Ian Thorpe has retired, which sucks. I've managed to find two new gymnasts to cheer for, Raj Bhavsar and Alexander Artemev (the two guys that replaced the Hamm brothers). I need to find another swimmer.
So far, gymnastics hasn't had any finals so neither of my guys have won (or lost) any events. Swimming however has had several finals. Phelps has participated in two and won both (while breaking the world records as well). Phelps is going to a record 8 golds this year and he looks like he just might do it.
Over all, China has the most medals right now, but there are still plenty of events left. Here's the medal breakdown of the top five as of right now:
