For two years, Pentagon accounts of 9/11 claimed that North American Aerospace Defense Command had tracked United Airlines flight 93--the one that crashed in Pennsylvania--and was prepared to shoot it down if necessary. Audio tapes released to the 9/11 commission revealed, however, that the military was not even aware the plane had been hijacked until four minutes after it crashed.
