Hyperpotamus

SXSW Music kicked into full speed yesterday.

First thing in the morning I was walking through the convention center to go check out the artist check in lines to see if I could spot anyone worth photographing.  I still had my concert lens on from the night before so I stopped at the little cafe to change out my lens.

There were some microphones set up away from the tables and while I was switching out my lens a guy went up to the mics and started performing.  He goes by the name Hyperpaotamus and is from Spain.  His performance was quite unique, he has four microphones hooked up to boxes that can loop the input from the mics.  So he performs relatively complex songs all by himself by doing all the percussions and vocals himself.

He did a wonderful cover of the Beatles song Strawberry Fields and that isn't available online but another song he did was called Toy Soldier's Day Off and he has a live video of that online.  Keep in mind while watching it that there are no instruments or other singers.  Nothing is prerecorded he does it all live.

For those of you in Austin who might be at SXSW I will be going to the Japan Preview Party this afternoon and then all night I am assigned to shoot the bands playing at the British Music Embassy which is on San Jacinto next to Sixth Street.
