tigertown 5000

woohoo! i think all this training is starting to pay off! i drove an hour and a half to liberty center, ohio this morning, and ran the tigertown 5000. it was SO hot and muggy again, just like at the hillsdale race a couple weeks ago. my first mile felt great, and i passed quite a few people, and my split ended up being 8:15, which is right on pace for me. the second mile was a bit harder, but i wasn't losing any ground on the people in front of me, and my split ended up being 17:20 (9:05 mile, quite good for a second mile for me). the third mile seemed to go really fast, even though there were some more hills to climb, and my finishing time was 27:45! that is a new personal record for me by 37 seconds! i had a bit of energy (but not much) left at the end, so i don't think i could have done it much faster. i ended up being 92nd out of 127 runners (i'm usually right in the middle, so this must have been a FAST race). i was 4th out of 8 in my age group, which is a couple places better than i usually do, but still one place out of the medals. but i checked the times, and i would have had to cut another 3 1/2 minutes off my time to beat the third place chick, so it's not like i barely missed a medal or anything. after the race they had a door prize drawing, and i won a $60 phone with a fancy digital display! maybe i will get phone service in my apartment afterall, so i can use my nice new phone! my mom said i should sell it on ebay, but i don't know if i could part with something that i WON. overall, it was a really cool race: well organized, well marked course, good food afterwards, good prizes, friendly people, and i got a new PR!

last weekend was amazing, it was so fun to hang out with the grand rapids crew at the campground in manistee. i managed to run 8 miles at 9am saturday morning after drinking all friday night, then took a nice refreshing dip in the tippy dam resevoir. i also got to see justin for a few hours on saturday (he was living in manistee, doing his internship with the forest service), and he met up with us again on saturday night at the campground. after eating a late lunch at big boy in manistee with most of the crew on sunday, i managed to make it home in time for a 2 hour bike ride before it got too dark sunday night. that's the farthest/longest i've ever biked, and it didn't seem hard at all.

my next race is the fair race in coldwater on august 5th. it is a fast and flat course, so maybe i'll manage to get another PR! things are getting so busy at work (the week after next is fair week), but it is a relief to know that fair will be over in 2 weeks, and i'll be back in east lansing in 3 weeks, yay!
