hillsdale baptist church sonshine 5k
i won a medal! i got 4th place overall in my 5k today, and 2nd place overall female! my time was the slowest i've run all summer, but the course was also the most difficult i've ever run in my life. the whole thing was marked out in two loops through mowed-grass fields and parking lots, and it was almost entirely in the sun. the race didn't start til 8:30, and it was already quite warm by then. the "mowed grass" was pretty long, and wet with dew, and the surfaces were quite uneven (some stretches were even run on a slant), and there were several big mud pits we had to run through. they had a 4-wheeler lead the course, which was neat, and they had water stops at each mile (but no split times).
during the first mile, i was in 10th place, and i had moved up to 8th place by the end of the first loop. throughout the rest of the race, i moved up to 4th place overall, which i was just ecstatic about! my time was 31:07, but the WINNING time was over 21 minutes, which is at least 5 whole minutes slower than the fastest time at most of the races i've done this summer. the 2nd place guy was 27 minutes, and the first place girl was 28 minutes (usually the women's winning time is 19 something), so i'm sure the heat and difficult course had lots to do with the slow times. but i won a medal!!!!!!!!
after the race, i came home and showered, and slept for a couple hours, then went to kellen's house, and spent the rest of the day on kellen's boat with him and josh. i finally got to drive a jet-ski! it was really fun, and i'm surprised that i wasn't scared of either driving it by myself, or of riding with kellen (who drove WAY faster than i did, of course).
i also finally got my letter of rent info from the oaks, so nicole, jasone, and i can finally get that stuff paid for.
now i can't decide what to do with my evening...
