Over the weekend I finished the last toiletries from the east coast - a ziplock bag of Q-tips, and my Wegman's toothpaste. This fact somehow seems noteworthy to me. Particularly for the Q-tips, because that led me to actually buy Q-tips for the first time in my life (at least, as far as I can remember). At home my parents would get them, and during college I would always just bring a bunch back to school in a ziplock bag whenever I went home. I've actually been home a few times since I moved out here, but somehow no longer felt compelled to take them with me (though perhaps as much a reflection of less space for random stuff when flying compared to driving than a reflection of being more self-sufficient.) Anyway, it feels like a good milestone of having been out here for awhile.
One of my high school buddies IMed me the other day to ask if I was coming home for our 5th reunion, which I'm not, because of school and all, but I felt like it was school stopping me, not the fact that I'm on the West coast per say. So that also felt like a sign of having been out here for awhile, that this flying back and forth thing isn't such a big deal (though had you asked me last week when I managed to screw up booking some flights, I probably would've responded differently...)
Actually, speaking about high school reunion, they continue to send me info about it even though I told them I wouldn't be coming, and the latest mailing included a list of people who had so far said they were coming. There were maybe 10 names on the list. I feel like if you're going to include a list of people signed up, you should wait until you're at maybe 25% at least, because otherwise it just makes the event seem unpopular. They did include a nice picture of all of us shortly before graduation, which was cute and definitely nostalgia producing, and I'll definitely be heading back to FCS at some point again, just too much going on this time around.
Last note: Ellen DeGeneres amused me at the Academy Awards. Possibly even more than Jon Stewart last year. There was an article in Time maybe about how it's so not a big deal that she's openly gay, which is really kind of true, though I wouldn't say it's the case in general society quite yet.
