Reasons my middle and high school rocked:
1) I go back to visit 4 years after graduating and still know the students, because they're siblings of people closer to my year.
2) Every teacher I stopped to see (albeit a select group, but I bet other teachers would have managed this too) was super enthusiastic to see me, and followed up by asking about me, each of my family members by name, and my high school friends by name.
3) The middle school principal was out directing afternoon traffic.
4) The middle school principal remembers things about me in middle school that I'd forgotten.
5) There are teachers who I'm still close enough to that their kids know me, even though these kids were infants when I graduated.
6) 5 people in my graduating class of 100 are currently working at the school, two as assistants in the Lower School, two as math teachers in the middle school, and one in the Development Office.
7) When I ran into 3 of said classmates now working at the school in the cafeteria (people I wasn't close to and thus haven't seen or talked to since high school graduation) there was genuine interest in catching up.

I swear there was more, so perhaps some edits later are in order. In any case, today's visit just reminded me how much that community means to me. One of these years they'll definitely start getting donations, but really, I wish they'd at least waited until I was out of college before starting to ask...
