I had a goal to post about Lauren's birthday before the end of the month, and luckily, it's leap year, so I have an extra day! Wahoo!
On February 8th, my little Laurie Loo turned 7! The weekend before her birthday, we had a "party." This year she got to invite one friend over in addition to family that live close by. She invited her friend Makayla. These two are the best of friends, and I think it's adorable to watch them together.
Here are the two buddies.
Lauren had a rough birthday weekend, though. She had been counting down to her birthday for weeks. WEEKS! Then, the day before her birthday party, she came home and asked if she could go to bed because her head hurt. Then, later when she woke up and came downstairs to see me making the cake, she just sat there staring blankly at the cake. I kept asking her if she was sick, and she would tell me no. Then, the day of her party, we went for a run as a family. She told me she felt fine, so I told her she had to run with us. She started wheezing, and it scared me. I made her stop and walk. She continued to tell me she felt fine, and she didn't feel warm. When her friend got there, she seemed very subdued. She mostly sat as Makayla played. But she also seemed to be enjoying herself. When her friend went home, she just laid on the couch. I told her I was going to check her temperature, and sure enough, she had a fever. 102. I asked her why she didn't tell me she felt bad, and she said she only had a headache. Then, I asked if she was afraid I would cancel her party, and she sheepishly nodded. That girl... So she was sick for her party. Poor little lady.
BUT like I said, she still had a good time. She decided she wanted a My Little Pony cake this year and told me, "It doesn't matter which one. Whichever one is easiest for you to make, Mommy." haha It kills me how my kids know I'm not that great at making cakes and accommodate me.
Here she is with her cake.
With her best buddy, of course. Thankfully, her birthday was near Valentine's Day, so there were plenty of pink and red m&m's that I could use for Pinkie Pie.
Here's a close-up of the cake.
It didn't look like the idea I gleaned from the internet, but it looked enough like Pinkie Pie to Lauren.
Here's a few more shots of my baby big girl at her party.
With her esteemed guests.
During the happy birthday song.
I'm not sure what they were staring at, but it must've been interesting.
Eating the yummy cake. And for the record, strawberry cake with chocolate m&m's on it is pretty tasty.
On her actual birthday I sent packages of cookies in her backpack for her class in a bag with a note saying they were for her class. After school, she told me they didn't eat them because the teacher thought I had sent them for the valentine's party! And Lauren didn't say anything about it because she's shy. Poor kid! So I sent a note the next day explaining that they were for her birthday, and they got to eat them. She was embarrassed because I wrote "Happy birthday, beautiful!" on the bag. haha
It seems so weird to me that Lauren is 7, and that next year she'll be old enough to get baptized. She is growing into such a beautiful little lady, inside and out. She is so sweet and kind. She takes care of all of us. She always wants to help. She makes sure that Owen and Brooklyn are okay and will go out of her way to help them. She is a loving soul. She's also really goofy. She giggles a lot, and it's so cute. She's a little shy and needs prodding to talk with new people, but she's also quick to warm-up to people and become their friend. She doesn't like to hurt people's feelings which is hard for her at school sometimes with her friends, but I also think it's sweet that she cares so much. She's also the only kid that I can get to spend time with me. She'll watch movies with me and do other activities with me. She is my little buddy. Sometimes I daydream about when she's a teenager and the fun things we'll get to do together.
I sure do love that Lauren. I'm so grateful she's here.
