Happy Backyard!

Oct 22, 2014 10:56

We've lived here in Laredo for over 4 years, and for those 4 years, our back yard has looked like poop. When we first moved in the yard looked nice.

See?

It was oh, so deceiving b/c that year Laredo had an unusual amount of rain. So much so that the Rio Grande flooded.

It didn't take long for us to realize that the backyard being green was not normal. Everything died. And the only things that were left were thorns. Lots of thorn. If you dared walk back there barefoot, you were bound to end up with a thorn in your foot. Inevitable.

I wanted to redo it so badly, but there's money issues. And then there's the fact that I have kids with me all the time, so something that would normally take an hour takes an entire day. Andrew works a ton, so when he is home, he doesn't want to work in the yard.

A few months ago Andrew actually brought up having someone come put sprinklers in and redo our yard. I did my best to remain calm while I was giddy on the inside. We finally got someone out here last week, and I'm so excited.

The first picture in each set is the Before picture, ie: dead grass pictures

We extended our patio. Isn't it pretty? We're also hoping to get one of these eventually to go over it.

I thought the overturned cooler added a nice touch, but I guess those new plants will work, too. Also, cute nakey baby. :)

Another shot of the patio. And we're hiring him out as a sweeper if anyone needs their patio swept. Oh, and in the before pic, the kids made a "kitty house" around my chair for the neighbor's cat.

Look at that green, green grass.

I know that patchy, weedy, gravelly look was really appealing. And that stack of paver stones? Awesome! But the grass will be nicer on the feet.

We had them put the same concrete/stone behind the a/c unit b/c we couldn't get the mower back there very well. Also, GRASS!

And here's a pretty picture of our plants in the corner. Google auto-awesomed it. Thanks, google.

I love it. Owen and I go out there all the time during the day now. And I also like that I can let him play back there without worrying about thorns anymore. When the kids got home from school after it was all done, I thought they'd be so excited. Evan said, "Honestly, I liked the dirt better." He doesn't mean the weeds. He means the dirt after they dug up all the weeds. haha What a goober.

So YAY! YARD! :D
