One day last week, I had made some appointments to visit a few ladies from church. I planned ahead and arranged places for my kids to be. Thankfully, two ladies in my neighborhood were willing to keep them for me. (I really love my neighborhood, y'all.) So I got the kids ready to go in plenty of time and drove over to the first friend's house.
Now, she lives like one street over from me, and normally, my kids just walk to her house to play, but I figured since I was driving anyway, I'd drive them over there. The kids piled in, and helpful big brother Evan grabbed Owen for me, and they sat in the front seat together for us to drive around the corner. After we got there, I hopped out to walk the kids to the door and left Owen in the front seat. I wasn't gone very long. He moved over to my seat and somehow locked the doors... with the car running.
GREAT!
Like I said, I lived just around the corner, so my friend offered to watch Owen for me as I ran home to get our extra set of keys. Just about that time, it started to rain. And not the sprinkling type rain that Laredo normally gets. No. It was a downpour.
I was running, soaked to the skin in blue jeans with wedge flip-flops while listening to my friend laugh heartily at my expense. And flip-flops can get pretty slippery when wet. Also, it's hard to run in wet blue jeans. I ran most of the way there and most of the way back (I was proud of me), and when I finally made it back to my car, the rain stopped. Like magic.
Thank you, weather...
So I rushed to the next friend's house, dropped Owen off, and rushed to the lady's house that I was to visit. I was still soaked, but I had dried a little, so it just mostly looked like I was an extremely sweaty person. And this was the first time I'd met her. First impressions for the win!
That Owen... he's lucky he's so cute. At least he gives me good writing material.
