Chores: Take 2

Do you remember when I got all motivated and made chore charts for me and the kids? Yeah, that lasted about a week. We had family over shortly thereafter, and I just got lazy with it.

I know. Me? Being lazy? Whaaa? Weird, right?

Lauren has actually been asking me when we're going to start doing Brown Bucks again. I keep putting it off b/c even though it's good for the kids, it's extra work for ME to keep up with, and I try to avoid extra work.

Anyway, last night I gave a family home evening lesson on technology safety in the home, and I realized that the best way for me to keep my kids from getting addicted to the internet (like me) is to start Brown Bucks and control when they get to use it. Blah.

But the kids were excited about it when I told them. Well, Lauren was. Evan screamed, "Nooooooo!" But then he went and got his Brown Bucks bag from the last time and started counting his loot. Then, he got excited. I decided that the last chart system I came up with didn't work. I looked on the internet for ideas and put together this little system.

So I printed up little cards with the chores listed on them--daily chores and extra chores--for each kid. Then, I put up these envelopes on an old cork board I had. Whenever they do a chore, they put the card into the top envelope, and at the end of the day, we count how many they have, and they get a Brown Buck for each one. I want to laminate the cards eventually.

I thought I was being all crafty by adding ribbon on the edge. (I'm not crafty.) I thumb tacked it on b/c I don't like to commit to gluing. It's so permanent.

Lauren is SO excited about the whole thing and has been cleaning all day. Evan still isn't home from school, so I don't know his reaction yet.

So there. Now that it's up on a wall, I HAVE to do it, right? RIGHT?! Here's hoping!

P.S. My icon just reminded me that I watched The A-Team movie last night, and I was so disappointed. I don't even know what the storyline was b/c it was all BOOM! BAM! LET'S SHOOT STUFF ALL THE TIME! I fell asleep, but I'm not sure how b/c stuff kept blowing up. Mr. T pities the fools that made that movie. (No, really, he does.)

lazy, being a mom, mr. t, chores, kids
