Being Poor and Slightly Healthy

Mar 09, 2010 13:37

I'm not health nut by any means. For one, I can't afford it. It baffles me that healthy food is so expensive. When did Corn Flakes become the expensive cereal, and Fruity Pebbles the cheap one? It blows my mind. I also don't really care for a lot of the healthy foods that are out there. I don't like whole wheat bread that much, but I'll take ( Read more... )

Johanna... I think you're doing this all wrong. I just have to say something. There is no way to be healthy the cheap way. If you want to be healthy, you are going to have buy a treadmill, all the good videos and also only the best healthy food. Healthy and cheap just don't go together. Take my word for it... if it's cheap, it ain't healthy. That includes water. hahahahahahahhahahahahaha! I'm just kidding. ~Anna

Just an idea...you may be able to go to the local library and check out newer exercise videos/DVDs. That way you can have new stuff and not get tired of the same boring thing while also working new muscles and breaking that plateau.

Also, in regard to food, my nutritionist had me focus on just caloric intake versus calories burned. If I'm eating 3,000 calories and burning 1,800 then I'm going to gain weight. It's just life. Doesn't matter what it is. So, try watching calories and portions. You can eat the unhealthy stuff, just not the whole carton of ice cream at once. :) Good luck!

Thanks for that suggestion! I've thought of going to the library before, but never have, so I didn't think to mention it.

And you are absolutely right about calories. I've been trying REALLY hard to not eat so much. It's so hard when the food is so good, though. haha

Real people don't shop at Whole Foods. At least not any real people that I know. And I think it's ridiculous when people eat only "organic" food. I think diets are a bad idea too. It's really just a lifestyle thing and it has to be something that you're willing to do for the rest of your life. What you're doing is going to keep you more healthy than someone who tries to change their entire diet to healthy foods or start up some unrealistic new workout plan. I'm not a picky eater, so I eat a variety of foods, and I do have a goal to be more active, but I'm like you. I want to make it a part of my lifestyle and not something that takes to much time and dedication like joining a gym. It'd be a waste of money because I wouldn't end up going. That's just not my style. Anyway, good post.

haha, that first sentence made me laugh. I've heard people talk about that place like it sells manna from heaven. I've never been there, either.

And, thanks! Glad ya liked it! And glad to see there's other people out there like me. :)
