Brief thoughts.

Last week I slept through my alarm, completely skipping therapy. This week I made sure to quadruple-check, and got there just a few minutes late.

Somehow, today we spent a fair amount of time talking about the American presidency, mostly FDR, Nixon, and Obama, in consideration of the nature of the desire of power and the shifting social attitudes surrounding the position. Which is somewhat relevant to the main idea which came up in the actual therapy part: a lot of conversation between people is just contact, not content. I found this somewhat strange, since content is what I enjoy about talking to people. I've tried talking to other people about this, at various times in my life - how if they don't want to engage with work/grad school/whatever, they want something mindless for 'turning their brain off.' This doesn't make much sense to me, since I tend to go for something that stimulates a completely different part of the brain. And the stimulation is important. I don't want to be bored.

Even at work, when we're talking about something someone else enjoys very much, like dogs, there's not a whole lot of information being exchanged. Maybe I should try harder to engage them.
