General life update

It's been a while since I updated so I'll give you all the rundown.

December brought an end to my life at Cuyahoga Community College. I graduated Magna Cum Laude which is still crazy and sinking in. I'm having to see myself as a capable, competent, and successful woman who really can do the things she sets her mind to. That's just not how I saw myself before so it's a little surreal but probably more healthy.

So far January has not been anything I was expecting it to be. I thought once school ended I would have all this free time on my hands and I could do all the things I dreamed of doing while I was in school. I envisioned reading, knitting, relaxing, picking up new hobbies, and who knows what else.

But school ended and the holidays came which kept me busy for the first few weeks as a graduate. Then as soon as the holidays ended Scott and I both caught a nasty cold which laid us out until this weekend. We have spent the new year in bed with soup, gatorade, and a box of tissues.

I also have a new list of things to do that are weighing on my shoulders. I have to write my application essays so that I can plan my next few years getting my BA. Since I've been sick they have been put off but now the time is upon me and I'm sort of a deer in headlights.

Work has been good but I'm torn on if I should stay once I start school again or if I should try to go to school full time. It's tough since it's a decent job that I actually enjoy and I may not be able to find something like it again but at the same time it's not what I ultimately want to do with my life.

I decided in late October to pick up running and did start for a short time in November but it's been slow going. School, sickness, holidays, shin splints, and life got in the way but I am determined to make this a part of my routine. I found a beginner's schedule and hope it eases me into it without injuring myself again.

Here's the schedule...

Week 1

Workout 1 : Walk 10 minutes. Then, for the next 10 minutes, alternate running for 1 minute and walking for 1 minute. Walk 10 minutes.

Workout 2 : Walk 10 minutes. Then, for the next 15 minutes, alternate running for 1 minute and walking for 1 minute. Walk 5 minutes.

Workout 3 : Walk 10 minutes. Then, for the next 15 minutes, alternate running for 2 minutes and walking for 1 minute. Walk 5 minutes.

Workout 4 : Walk 5 minutes. Then, for 21 minutes, alternate running for 2 minutes with walking for 1 minute. Walk 4 minutes.

Week 2

Workout 1 : Walk 5 minutes. Then for the next 20 minutes, alternate running for 3 minutes with walking for 1 minute. Walk 5 minutes.

Workout 2 : Walk 5 minutes. Then for the next 21 minutes, alternate running for 5 minutes with walking for 2 minutes. Walk 4 minutes.

Workout 3 : Walk 4 minutes. Then for the next 24 minutes, alternate running for 5 minutes with walking for 1 minute. Walk 2 minutes.

Workout 4 : Walk 5 minutes. Then for the next 22 minutes, alternate running for 8 minutes with walking for 3 minutes. Walk 3 minutes.

Week 3

Workout 1 : Walk 5 minutes. Run 10 minutes. Walk 5 minutes. Run 5 minutes. Walk 5 minutes.

Workout 2 : Walk 5 minutes. Run 12 minutes. Walk 3 minutes. Run 5 minutes. Walk 5 minutes.

Workout 3 : Walk 10 minutes. Run 15 minutes. Walk 5 minutes.

Workout 4 : Walk 6 minutes. Run 18 minutes. Walk 6 minutes.

Week 4

Workout 1 : Walk 5 minutes. Run 20 minutes. Walk 5 minutes.

Workout 2 : Walk 5 minutes. Run 22 minutes. Walk 3 minutes.

Workout 3 : Walk 3 minutes. Run 25 minutes. Walk 2 minutes.

Workout 4 : Run 30 minutes.

I'll try to keep updating on my progress. I just got back from doing workout 1 and it went well. I feel like it gave me enough warm up and cool down time that my body was more prepared for the running time. It seems less daunting when you are only adding a minute here and there. It seems like all of a sudden you'll find yourself running for 20 minutes at a time.

I should get going and work some more on my essay. Once I get my applications in I'll be more able to do that list of things I wanted to do during my off time from school.

Hope all is well with everyone else. Now that I have a little more time I hope to make it to visit people on the weekends like Alyssa in NYC and Bob in Chicago. : ) I'm loving my break.
