2005 - a retrospective!!

Jan 01, 2006 11:28

First and foremost - I want to wish everyone on my f-list a very Happy and Healthy 2006. Hope you all had fun celebrating and there aren't too many sore heads this morning.

My 2005 turned out to be a year I certainly never expected with both the good and the bad surprising me around every corner. So I have decided to do a little review of the year - like they do on the tv - mainly to have it logged somewhere, rather than just rattling round in my head!!

January
Was a reasonably quiet month. Nothing exciting happened and I didn't really go anywhere either.

February
Things got a little more exciting this month as I went to see Ocean's 12, got my car serviced and suddenly decided one Saturday morning to go and get my cartilage pierced!!

March
This month got a little busier still as Mum & Dad came up for lunch out. Then later on in the month I went home for a week for birthdays and Easter and during that week went to see Lincoln City play Shrewsbury, went for a day out to Sheringham, turned 27, went bowling with my Dad and sat in the pub to watch an England match. How more exciting could my life get!!

April
This could be the turning point to be honest, as this month the company I worked for moved offices and that lead to a whole host of events and chance meetings!! During this month I also had a few first time events. I went to an airport for the first time, to meet my bestest pal Isabell for the first time as we were both going to see James Marsters for the first time. A drive to Liverpool was pretty interesting as well, getting completely lost and ending up driving under the Mersey and onto the Wirral - a detour I hope not to repeat this year!!

I also went to Joseph Well in Leeds for the first time, to see James again and that has lead to some pretty interesting times, but I will come to that later I have no doubt.

May
This month seems quite quiet in comparison with the last couple of months. Nothing too exciting happening. I had a funeral to go to, which is never nice. I went home for the weekend to watch the FA Cup final with my Dad, but seeing as though my team lost, we won't dwell on that!! And I went to see the final installment of Star Wars.

June
This month saw another first - as I went to the theatre at the end or the next street to us to see a performance of Wyrd Sisters. I also went to the cinema to see Mr & Mrs Smith. Then rounded off the month with a shopping trip to the White Rose Centre with Vicki.

July
This is the month when the year really started to get busy. It started off quite quiet, but then there was the now infamous night out with Benn, where we left work at half 4 on the Friday and I got home at quarter past 8 on the Saturday morning!! There was also a trip to Newquay this month, which isn't normally when I go, so was nice to be at the seaside in the summer and I even got a bit of a tan!! The month ended with a trip to the cinema to see Fantastic Four, which is not so fantastic.

August
This month started with the news that my ex-boyfriends Mum had died and so there was another funeral to go to and the added trauma of seeing my ex and his family again 2 years after splitting up with him. This ended up being quite a revelation to me actually, as seeing them all again made me realise just how much I had changed in those 2 years.

Then if that all wasn't enough, a week later (on my Dad's birthday) I was given my 4 weeks notice by the company I had worked for, for the past 4 years. This was a blow I didn't know how the hell I would ever recover from, but looking back now I think it is one of the best things that could have happened to me!!

The other amazing thing that happened this month was a visit to Coventry to see a certain musician I had 'discovered' in Liverpool. It's hard to think that this time last year I had no clue who Al Britten was.

And somewhere in amongst all this excitement I managed to squeeze in a trip to the cinema to see the Island.

September
This month didn't start so great as I crashed my computer like a b*****d and had to wait for a disc from my Dad to get it sorted again. So whilst it was out of action for a weekend I went to see The Dukes of Hazzard and Bewitched at the cinema.

I had my last day at the company I worked for and had my car covered in squirty cream and toilet roll as a parting gift (thanks Benn!!). So I started my new roll in life as a temporary employee and worked for an advertising company for a couple of weeks, managing to nab myself a copy of Dreamweaver in the process, which was a great help to my web designing tendencies!!

I had another trip to the cinema to see Pride and Prejudice, and to my amazement, really enjoyed it. Then there was the interview with the print engineering company the day before another trip to Coventry to see Alan again and my discovery of a couple of amazingly talented bands - Resound and The Circle.

The end of the month started with another new job at the print engineers and my meeting Nic.

October
This was the Serenity month. I had been waiting for this film for so long and it really did not disappoint. So much so I went to see it 2 weeks running and can't wait for it to come out on DVD over here.

There was a move of office again for the print engineers I was working for and a trip to a bonfire and fireworks display (we always have it early in Ilkley) and a trip to the cinema again to see Domino this time.

And then the month ended on a total high. With going to see Rooster in concert on the Thursday night, driving to Manchester airport (for the first time) on the Friday morning, picking up Isabell and driving to my parents. Then we headed off on the Saturday to London by train to see James 'do' Macbeth and then took Is back to Manchester again on the Sunday and was totally knacked by the end of the month!!

November
This month started something that I hope will continue far into 2006 and beyond. I decided to go to Josephs Well in Leeds one Friday night (even though Resound weren't going to be there) and there was this band playing - The Volcanoes. And little did I know that night what would become of me and them (and the cute roadie!!) a week later. As a trip to see them at the Vine in Leeds the following Friday lead to a night out that was one of the maddest ones I think I will ever have. It also lead to me 'discovering' Ego as well, who are one of the most amazing bands I have heard in a long time (Although not as good as the Volcs, in case Ash is reading this - lol).

All this lead to a trip to Sheffield for the first time, which was interesting, getting completely lost, but ending up being 5 minutes from the venue!! And somewhere in amongst all of that I managed to get down to Coventry to see Alan play one of the best sets I've seen him do.

I also managed to squeeze in a few trips to the cinema seeing The Brothers Grimm, Elizabethtown, Sky High and Harry Potter.

The only kind of bad thing that happened this month, was being given notice again, that there wasn't the job promised to me anymore at the print engineers. But seeing as though this lead to better things, it wasn't that bad I suppose.

December
The final month of this mad year and I have squeezed plenty in to it. I worked 2 weeks at Boston Spa school and have finally decided (after 27 years) what I want to do with my working life and that involves working in a school.

I also managed to go to Sheffield twice and into Leeds once to see The Volcs perform and a couple of trips to the cinema to see the Chronicles of Narnia and King Kong. There has been a shopping trip with Vicki, much time spent in pubs, a pantomime and some work in a Health Centre as well, just to finish off the year nicely!!
---------------------------------------
So with all of that behind me I say to 2006 - bring it on!! Let's hope the review of this year is just as long and fun filled.

stuff, music, gigs, cinema, work, al&cov, james
