Didn't have insurance throughout my 20s, and the one I got removed through the dental school was such a nightmare experience I never went back for the others. They haven't given me trouble until now, so I haven't bothered.
For a different perspective: I had all four of mine removed when I was 21 and it was not horrible at all. I didn't have general anesthesia (too scary) but I had the laughing gas and I knew what was going on but I just didn't care. Plus it seemed to only take 5 minutes. After I was given percosets but I didn't really need them and didn't like them so I just used ibuprofen and I was fine.

I had all 4 of mine removed at once when I was like 19. It was horrible.
Not to make you all scared or anything.
