Being home makes me homesick.

I really do miss North Carolina a lot more than I realize. My mom is mostly done decorating her new house and it looks amazing. AMAZING. Every room is beautiful..just perfect. And big. And southern.
Friday night, after coming home from eating at the penguin, my parents and I took a bottle of wine and some candles out onto the back porch. There's lots of plants and shelves now as well as rocking chairs and a love seat overlooking the pond. The geese were hanging out on the dock and the frogs were singing their hearts out. These frogs that inhabit my back yard are one of the most wonderful things I've ever experienced. There's four different audible species and THOUSANDS of them. Over in one area we'll hear a group of bull frogs quietly mumbling "MMMMWWWWaaaahhhh." and then across the yard, some others will reply "YIP YIP YIP!" and some farther away will say "MEH.....MEH.....MEH!" all backed by the normal steadily-chirping-plain-old-pond-frogs. They are such a great yard chorus! They create such a huge sound for such little guys! We sat in complete silence for the longest time just listening and sipping our merlot, watching the candles flickering and the fireflies flying. I restarted a scarf that I'm knitting for my Matty. Later we had deep conversation, and then we rocked out together to good music. It was so serene and refreshing.
My mom, I guess, has gotten a little better at being an empty nester. Over breakfast she told me that she spends her time turning all the plants in the house so that every angle of them gets even amounts of sunlight. She told me about the friends she's made. "There's a little green lizard who lives right over there. When he makes noises his big red chin puffs out really big. Sometimes I go out there and talk to him just to get him agitated him so he'll do it..."
For the most part nothing here ever really changes much. Brittany is still the most spontaneous lady of all. She decided on a whim to take me for a 3 hour car ride to visit a former obsession whom I had not spoken to in about 3 years. The visit was warmly received. Trixy's new boyfriend seemed nice.
Bret is still trouble.
I think my parents think I'm a drunk. At a restaurant, my dad ordered me a newcastle and the waitress asked me for my ID and I had to tell her "Nevermind, I'll just have water". One of the other waitresses teased me about it and I was embarrassed.
The air here is too still for me. I miss the high speed breezes coming off of the great lake. I miss standing with the side of my foot flush with the edge of train platform so that when they speed through tunnels, the hair near the front of my head stands straight out. There's no feeling in the world I love more than that of air moving fast over my skin.
I'm going home tomorrow. It's time to pack up everything I own and move to a new building. Moving is no fun.
