Election Night: Preface

Nov 06, 2008 09:54

I'm working on getting together photos and video for a full post.
Yesterday I was sleeping (unofficial celebrations didn't end with the sun coming up) and then nursing a big head from those celebrations.
I'm still overwhelmed with happiness, unable to find words that feel even semi-adequate for what I feel, and generally amazed that it really happened.
A brief recap of my day (click image for larger version with readable text):

As soon as possible you'll have my thoughts, the day's events here and some pics with a distinct "Campaign Volunteers Gone Wild" kind of feel. I also have some posts I want to respond to bookmarked so I don't spend all day today commenting but remember to go back to them.

For now, two things...

THANK YOUS!
Thank you to adoraheatherly for her enthusiasm and the video links/Amazon shipment that convinced me that, whatever his chances of winning, I had to support this candidate.
Thank you to the campaign workers and volunteers who dealt with my total inexperience, endless questions and confusion and my occasional procrastination/general "oopsies"...and for making me feel welcome/accepted in spite of these things.
Thank you to the people who have become part of my friends list--who got to know me beyond our political exchanges on various Obama communities and became my friends as well.
Thank you to the friends (involved in the campaign/agreeing with my politics or not) who tolerated and even enjoyed my excessive political posts, encouraged me and told me how proud they were of my involvement--You guys did a lot to keep me enthusiastic and sane (er...as sane as I ever am).
Most of all, thank you to everyone who gave time, money and words to this election--no matter how great or small the contribution we made. It's amazing that we got through the year without giving up from frustration or simple exhaustion. We ALL deserve a pat on the back because not one of us could have done it alone and, all of us together beat the odds. What we did was incredible and we have a lot of reasons to be proud of ourselves.

SUMMING UP MY JOY--A PICTURE'S WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS.
Rob saw this last night and it made me get both sniffly and awed all over again because it really does show what I see as the implications of this victory

Hope everyone had a great election night and all hangovers have been nursed into disappearance. :)

*bounce*

**Oh, one less than chipper note. To my Republican friends--Now is NOT the time to tempt me into owning you. I don't take kindly to having my afterglow dimmed. So if I respond to snarky, bitter or outright nasty posts a little more bluntly than usual, please try to understand that they contrast horribly with the positive, inclusive, joyful atmosphere I've been around so much lately and seem even lower by comparison.
No offense...I'm just totally not into the hate and, admittedly, it's a relief not to have to worry about being a "voice of the campaign" and the remote chance of ending up on CNN as a rogue Obama volunteer for telling someone off.

joy, obama, election
